Quite frankly, I don't know why you wouldn't want to serve someone; it's a poor business model that refuses business.

not Christian Churches as that goes against the Bible

Try as you might to kid yourself. Living the homosexual lifestyle is unacceptable in Christianity. We do not condone theft, murder, gay sex and a whole host of things. If being a Christian is more important to you than gay sex, then go back to heterosexual sex, stop the homosexual sex and become a Chrisitian. It's actually quite simple.

I disagree. The ruling by the SCOTUS deemed the choice of gay-sex to over-rule the Constitution and religious liberty.

As much as you try, you're incapable. It's the f'ing internet.

Never pretend to know what your opponents will or will not do.
    It makes you look stupid.

    Cool story.
    Sad life... but cools story.
    Got any more ?

I didn't say it bothered me, I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy in the handling of posts.

    Like your obsession with me.
    Way off topic.
But it will certainly remain, while my exchange with Junius is removed because we discussed a pastor banned from a prison.

Now.. anything to say on the topic? Or have I become more important....

Because the baker holds his religious convictions above monetary profit. ..and it should be respected. This is why we have the first amendment.

You're free to respect him, he's free to hold his religious convictions, and the state is free to revoke his business license.

The flaw in your argument is that you think that your version of Christianity is the only real version, and someone has to believe in your version to be considered a true Christian. Countless wars in Europe over the millennia has proven what a dumb stance that is.

I notice as usual with christians, you leave out adulterers. Why? Those in 2nd or more marriage or divorced and in another relationship.
If being a christian is more important, then leave the 2nd or more marriage. Become celibate. It's quite simple.
You of course are one of the few never been divorced?
Are not a hypocrite. For God and Jesus speak very ill of hypocrisy.
Have a love of money, for even in the new testament that is one of 2 abominations.

You are still free to feel that same-sex marriage goes against your beliefs. You are still free to not get married to someone of the same sex. You are even still free to let people know what you think of same-sex marriage. Your religious liberty is still intact to believe what you think marriage is supposed to be.. But what you are not free to do is enshrine in law your specific religion's views on marriage.

If I were at the bakery, I would have baked the gay cake with a bible inside.

if a person continues to be an adulterer, much like one continues to engage in gay sex, then they go against the Bible.

But here is what you keep refusing to understand; if you stop having gay sex, and revert back to heteroseual sex, then you're good. You're still the same person, you just stopped having gay sex. Is that clear enough for you?

That's a poor business model, IMO. And apparently is against the law.

They make it pretty clear why, seems you would know by now.

As for their "business model", it's obviously been quite successful for them.

I'm sure they'd care to know the people here at PF think otherwise.

I know "why they want to", but my semi-colon inferred that I don't know why they would potentially sacrifice business over personal beliefs (it IS a business). If the business model was to get press from such discrimination, and attain certain business by way of that "advertising", then it's potentially good, but I doubt that's the business model they intended to use, nor one that works for others. I'm not sure that having a legal ruling against your business really helps it under certain circumstances; a bank may refuse a loan because there has been a judgement against their business practice (regardless of what the case was about, or if it was ethical or not).

Gay or not, discrimination or not, I'd be serving as many people as possible, within legal limits, to make my business as profitable as possible. If they gambled on press attention on this, they may want to examine their beliefs on gambling too :D

Of course it's not. They can't force the gays to run and cry to the media.
Sure, it's predictable, but not reliable.

My guess is since they're rejecting a customer, they likely don't need a loan.

Greed will do that. Some people hold principle over profit.

I too would make the cake, because I don't believe there is a problem in doing so.
But, if they don't want to be a part of something they consider wrong.... I have to say their decision to refuse and risk fines, is quite admirable.

I hate seeing people sell out for things they don't believe in.

Bottom line, I would love to see the KKK shoved out the door of a black bakery.
But... thanks to laws like this, that black baker has to quietly serve the white man.
    Again.

    And that's wrong.

then you could be sued for selling a contaminated food product..... probably lose your license to sell any cakes

if a business can't sell cakes without discriminating, they either open a private club or stop selling cakes... simple really

black people should not be able to discriminate based on color or gender any more then a white baker should be able to do so

now, they can refuse certain artwork to everyone equally....

if a gay couple came in and asked the baker to write, Homophones are evil... the baker would have a right to deny the request, but they would have to sell the basic cake they advertised as for sale

you don't want to sell them a gay cake, that is fine, just sell them the same cake you would sell a heterosexual couple

when a opposite gender couple buys a cake it's not a opposite gender cake, it's still just a wedding cake

    when a inter-racial couple buys a cake it's not a inter-racial cake, it's still just a wedding cake

when a same gender couple buys a cake it's not a same gender cake, it's still just a wedding cake

I mean what is next, bankers wont give loans to gay couples, home builders wont sell homes to gay couples... where does it stop?

... well, not right now anyway.

I'm not sure on that. You shouldn't be able to NOT serve someone because of the customers' belief. If the KKK customer asked for a cake, plain and simple, but you knew he was KKK - you should make the cake. If he asked for a cake with burning cross fondant model, that could imply a message of hate - and the baker would be within legal right to deny. Persistent attempts to ask for "illegal cakes" could be interpreted as attempting to interrupt business and he could bar the customer.

The gay cake didn't spread a message of hate or otherwise discriminatory message, under legal terms, so shouldn't have been refused.

Then the business needs to change. A cake service cannot pick and choose as they like it, because they make cakes, period. A "Catholic cake shop exclusively serving to the Catholic community" might be more appropriate; I'm not sure if that's being discriminating or just niche, under law.

I would say the gays are correct. Just look at "there", "their" and "they're".

Sure makes for a stupid cake though... and the baker should be able to refuse to make it.

yep agree, you can't force a baker to say something they do not want to say on the cake.... only expect them to sell the cake they advertised as for sale to the general public without discriminating

Were it my bakery, I'd put up a sign with a clear statement about what kind of stuff that would be contrary to our company policy.

A person doing that would have to be careful that their published policy doesn't seem to target a segment of the community (if it did, the sign itself might violate state law or community standards).

But an intelligently presented statement of a reasonable policy that clearly and politely expresses business practices might head off many wasteful discussions and let the baker focus on doing business instead of arguing politics.

agree, as long as a same gender couple can buy the same cake a opposite gender couple can, there is no issue

if putting two male names on a cake is a problem for the baker, say no names on any cakes... ect...
