MoRon DeSantis-- next President of the United States!

Got Florida opened up for business, long before most states, and now laughing all the way to the hospital.

Doesn’t it suck that Biden sends most of the infected migrants to Florida?

Shhhh! That's like - supposed to be a secret. ;-)

    “Abstract

There were 3 influenza pandemics in the 20th century, and there has been 1 so far in the 21st century. Local, national, and international health authorities regularly update their plans for mitigating the next influenza pandemic in light of the latest available evidence on the effectiveness of various control measures in reducing transmission. Here, we review the evidence base on the effectiveness of nonpharmaceutical personal protective measures and environmental hygiene measures in nonhealthcare settings and discuss their potential inclusion in pandemic plans. Although mechanistic studies support the potential effect of hand hygiene or face masks, evidence from 14 randomized controlled trials of these measures did not support a substantial effect on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza. We similarly found limited evidence on the effectiveness of improved hygiene and environmental cleaning. We identified several major knowledge gaps requiring further research, most fundamentally an improved characterization of the modes of person-to-person transmission.”

Seriously, where do you guys live?? That everyone believes this "pandemic" nonsense??

I personally don't know a single person who believes any of the garbage you lefties are constantly drum beating about.

I live in a pretty liberal area, and the vast majority aren't wearing masks. Every once in a while you see someone, and you can spot them as a whackadoodle liberal right away - driving a Subaru, kayak rack on the roof, sandles, lol...

Rational, informed people aren't buying the propaganda.

If ya ask me, I think they doubled down too quickly - they should have waited until later in the year.

They are obviously using the 'crisis/relax/crisis/relax' cycle strategy to herd the masses. It is a proven effective tactic of mass manipulation. I just think the should have let the relaxation cycle play out a little longer.

Somebody screwed something up somewhere. the numbers of various groups that have already got the vaccine is what you are showing. And what Kamala and others said before the election is at variance with what they said after the election.

Let’s just mask the rest of our lives. Yeah, no.

And if the vaccines worked, Booger Biden wouldn’t be telling vaccinated people to mask.

Because, as it's been suggested (not thoroughly demonstrated yet, but it's suggestive) it may very well be that Delta causes more severe disease, given that viral load in patients with Delta have been found to be about 1,000 times higher in average than what was seen with previous variants.

Get enough of a viral load, and even young and healthy people will get very sick. That's why we've unfortunately seen cases of resident physicians, people who are in their late twenties, dying of Covid-19, like a case I posted here months ago.

Yeah, sure. Since the pandemic is in 210 countries, you mean that liberals dominate the entire world, right? I didn't know... Including in places where there are ferocious rightist governments, right? The world's second worst outbreak is in a place with a far-right government, Brazil. So, are the liberals causing the pandemic there, too?

    Incredible...

Yeah. Somebody screwed something up somewhere: you rightists who try to rewrite history every time.
    My numbers are correct.
And again, nobody here had the courage to provide a verifiable link to Harris' full quote. She said she'd take the vaccine IF the FDA approved it without political pressure. Which is what happened. Now you're trying to conveniently forget the complete quote.
Oh, and by the way, I'm no leftist (not rightist is not equal to leftist), and I do not like Harris, something I've said here numerous times, much before she was even picked for VP, a choice I expressed dismay about, again numerous times in my posting history. But as much as I dislike her, I don't try to rewrite History and I don't try to take her out of context or with selective quoting.

No, the rest of the world does NOT use these as they have not been approved by the WHO (yet). And just fyi, Ivermectin is available in the US.

    What is your point, exactly?
Are you implying that it's not as bad?
No, it isn't, because of three reasons:
    1. The virus has already collected the low-hanging fruit of the very elderly. So now that it's infecting younger people, ICU rates are smaller than before.
    2. Seniors have been vaccinated in much bigger proportion than younger people, and some of the infections are breakthrough infections in the fully vaccinated, which do not tend to get to the same proportion of hospitalized cases and ICU cases we were seeing before.
    3. Fewer cases are progressing to the ICU because now we have better treatments (namely, we learned that enoxaparin, dexamethasone, and other ways to suppress cytokine storms (high dose aspirin, famotidine, high dose melatonin, etc.) land fewer people into ICU care, and we also learned that high flow oxygen for as long as possible avoids invasive ventilation. We have monoclonal antibodies for cases with risk factors. Remdesivir helps a bit. And so on and so forth. So we made some (limited but significant) progress in the way we treat the disease.

If the Delta variant had infected the older people, without vaccines, and therapeutics weren't as evolved, chances are that it would have killed more people, caused more hospitalizations, and more ICU care than the ancestral variants.

Still, even though now the population is partially protected which wasn't the case for the ancestral variants, Delta is causing a very significant surge, landing some pockets of the nation in troubled waters. By now, case numbers are going up everywhere, and especially in Florida which accounts for one fifth of all new cases in the United States, and they are at an all-time high for that state.

Also, what can't be overlooked, is that Delta won't be the last variant (and isn't, already - we are having Lambda now in the United States (the one first detected in Peru), and a new one first detected in Colombia that hasn't been given a Greek letter yet).

Some virologists believe that it is inevitable that a subsequent new variant will evade the vaccines and the natural or monoclonal antibodies entirely, which will bring us to square zero.

This is far from over. I've been saying this for a long time. This virus will become endemic. There will be no herd immunity. And... like in Game of Thrones... Winter is coming.

I remember a thread posted by some misguided poster here (haha, there are so many of those...), quoting a Johns Hopkins doctor who kept saying that we were about to reach herd immunity in the United States and the outbreak here would be over by April 2021.

I ridiculed this position... and posters here tried to ridicule *me*, saying "that's someone from JOHNS HOPKINS!!!" (ignoring that both the medical school I graduated from, and the medical school I currently work for, are just as prestigious as Johns Hopkins, and there are idiots everywhere including in the best medical schools, like this doofus from Johns Hopkins).

So, I guess I was proven right... Here we are in August of 2021, getting back to about 100,000 new cases per day. Yeah, right, herd immunity... yeah, right, over by April...

This is not over. Far from it.

Every time a wave subsides, people sing victory and relax and stop all prudent behaviors... then the virus surges up again. It's the freaking FIFTH time it happens... but apparently people won't learn. Including the Biden administration. The CDC should never have issued all the reassuring guidelines doing away with masks, while it was obvious that Delta would come to us sooner or later.

So, the Trump administration was stupid in dealing with Covid-19... and the Biden administration continues to be stupid.

Let's not underestimate the stupidity of the American people and our politicians. It's not for nothing that while being arguably one of the world's most advanced countries, and while having only 4% of the world's population, we have 20% of the world's Covid-19 deaths.

We botched this badly and we continue to botch it.

Or maybe now we can expect people that don't live here in Florida to stay the hell out... No of course not the selfish bastards will still come here and bring their covid with them. But let's blame the governor for those people shall we?

Is there a count of COVID deaths and does it correlates with the increasing number of COVID cases? If yes, he’s a moron. If not, someone else is a moron :couple_inlove:

The other day, I was reading about Washington DC buttoning up Cos the Delta is here! :hiding:

they had 1 new COVID death… they also had 12 people shot dead over the same time period.

There are definitely morons among us :D

Don't be silly. Your sarcasm is noted and dismissed. We won't all die. No Chicken Little. But MANY WILL. And have. And that's just given the current status. It is perfectly possible that a new variant that evades natural and vaccinated immunity entirely, is just around the corner, setting us back to square zero. This virus is here to stay and will be endemic. We'll have to deal with it every year, waxing and waning and getting worse in the winter. Mark my words.

Like I said in other posting, given the latest meta-analyses of RCTs, evidence is mounting that ivermectin may indeed be beneficial for Covid-19, and it is entirely possible that when more evidence comes in (if positive), the WHO and the FDA will change their views on ivermectin. Science evolves.

I think that ivermectin suffered from the debacle of hydroxychloroquine. Due to that fiasco, people became hesitant in endorsing still another repurposed drug, before rock-solid evidence. They didn't want to board another leaking ship.

Maybe if the hydroxychloroquine fiasco had never happened, we'd be farther along in endorsing ivermectin.

I'm sure it's not the same everywhere, but ICUs in some places are seeing almost the same as in round one. My wife works in an ICU, and she said that it's as bad as before as far as number of patients. Once again, they have halted non-essential surgeries and have converted other wards to Covid wards. The big difference this time is the age group. Nearly all are in the 30-50 age group.

She did say that there are fewer fatalities this time, but I do wonder about those long-term effects.
