It is a fact that not all will go by the rules. It may be a sad situation but it is true. You might have gotten the point

He ran the risk of getting tested positive.

Biden administration to invest $3.2B for Covid-19 antiviral pills

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/wh...=857693951420692326&utm_medium=Email Sailthru

"The Biden administration announced Thursday that it will invest $3.2 billion in the development of antiviral pills to protect against Covid-19. The money, from the American Rescue Plan, will go toward clinical trials and the manufacturing of promising treatments that could be taken early in the course of the disease and potentially save lives, officials said. Thanks for this, an interesting piece. Anti viral drugs have been around for a while but a financial boost to their development is a good idea. Its a step towards being ready for Covid 20. Which will surely come.

    Point of order.
It's too late for Covid 20 since it's 2021 already.
Being prepared for the next pandemic would be a great idea but I'm not convinced we'll be forward enough thinking.
Any more than 5 years away and preparedness will just be another victim of spending cuts.

Ah. I thought the 19 referred to the version not the year.
You are probably right but any commitment helps.
I know covid killed many good people but it was not any comparison with previous plagues. So our reaction was not so bad as it could have been.

It's not the black death sure but I wonder how many people are aware that it has killed more Americans than the Spanish flu.

Ah, just double checked and I was wrong.
675,000 deaths from Spanish flu verses 601,000 Covid deaths (so far).
    I thought it was 575,000.
    Still, not that far off.

The Spanish flu has been said to have included losses due to casualties in World War I.

That makes sense. In many cases it would have been both injury and virus.
I'll have a read up when I get a minute.

Yes. I thought the following was interesting
“Social determinants of health rooted in inequity — including poverty, where a person lives, to which types of food they have access and their education — were also hugely important factors in a person’s health, especially among nonwhite Americans.

“Those tendencies in the U.S. that we outlined in 2013 were on full display during the pandemic, and the systemic issues that cause them are still in place,” Woolf said.”
…..”Black Americans are already more likely than white Americans to face barriers created by social determinants of health. They are more likely to rent their homes, have lower education, make less money, live in polluted neighborhoods and not hold employer-sponsored health insurance.”

That flu killed 1 in 10. Covid is nothing like that.

None of which limits them from eating less and better foods. Also since Covid killed the majority in their 80s, one cannot escape aging.
