Okay, take the price of the drugs argument.

If I bought something for $20, and wanted to sell it, why would I sell it for $10, when I could sell it for $30? If you sell drugs, the idea is to make a profit, right? That's the entire point of drug dealing. The dealers sell a small amount of drugs for a high price, and the addicts pay for it, and the dealers get rich.

If Schapelle sold her drugs in Indonesia, where the price is very low, she's be losing money, not gaining it. Why would she simply throw her money away? What would be the point of going to all that trouble when she wasn't planning on making a profit?

Tell me then, what do people who smuggle drugs tend to do with them?

Mak, you are wrong. There is a very good market for strong hydro dope in Bali. My understaning is that it sells on the street for the equivalent or more than it would in australia. The market over there is cashed up bogan tourists. In fact smuggling it into Bali would be quite a clever thing to do, unless of course some bored customs official actually takes a glance into your bags. That would be bad luck. Also you would have to have contacts in Bali, preferably someone you could trust with relations in both Bali and Australia. Oh, wait.

Ian I would have thought you were much too intelligent to just wildly grab on to other's prejudices. If you look at it logically, and by your own words you say "it sells on the street for the equivalent or more than it would in Australia.".

Any sane person is not going to go to the trouble and danger of buying drugs in Queensland, smuggling it via a change in aircraft in Sydney, then overseas to one of the most notorious countries in the world when it comes to drugs. To then try and sell it in a country swamped with cheaper varieties.

If this was the case, there would need to be some proof. Where when did she buy them. Why did she just put them in such an obvious place.

A more believable scenario would be that a criminal syndicate had established connections with baggage handlers and developed a network of baggage handlers to distribute drugs throughout Australia by using innocent passenger luggage.

A system to bypass the normal internal security checks that allows them to easily send packages to any destination within the country.

Now in this case the package was placed into baggage that was to be transferred to an international flight and the collection was not made.

The baggage and passenger continue on their journey and are stopped by border security who find drugs, easily accessible, not hidden and in the baggage of someone who says they don't know about them and being smuggled illogically to a poorer market.

To me, the first scenario casts a lot more doubt. Let's not even look at the lack of evidence presented. Stuff you quote about "cashed up bogans" and "contacts and relatives" would apply to a lot of people and is absolutely not sufficient enough without firm proof, be enough to even imply she smuggled drugs.

At the very best, without any evidence that she was even aware it was there, that she purchased it, packed it or anything at the very worst, they can only PROVE possession and then that's doubtful.

And lastly, the fact that some of you are comparing her sentence compared to terrorists sentence's are off this planet. Drug smuggling in comparison to terrorism is like comparing shop lifting to armed robbery.

If a terrorist only gets 15 years max for murdering hundreds of Australians and a young girl gets death for maybe smuggling "Coals to Newcastle" then this country and people that support such treatment of our citizens should hang their heads.

    I am
This is the reality of the situation, Indonesia may be a poor country itself but Bali is absolutely full of Aussies on package tours willing to pay top dollar for quality pot that just isnt available in Indonesia. Have you ever been to Bali?

    Ok, then read this
25 years ago I myself was offered (allegedly) Nepalese hashish in Bali by a westerner.

She has been proven guilty in a court of law which followed well established legal principles and had the benefit of appropriate legal counsel to prove her case. Im not going to attempt to post court manuscripts to prove this and neither should I have to to prove my point. As I have posted earlier expert legal opinion states she had a fair trial and was convicted appropriately.

Unfortunately this is a totally unbeleivable scenario. For one thing it is glaringly obvious that if i wanted to avoid security checks I would not be placing illegal items on an international flight which would be subject to much more harsher security checks than domestic flights. The other point about this "scenario" that you propogate here is that it was invented by Corbys lawyer which he admitted to later. It has been mentioned that the AFP indeed cast allegations that there was baggage handlers allegedly involved in smuggling drugs from state to state but the AFP stated quite explicitly that this involved domestic flights only. Sheer logic would also tell us that if there were criminal syndicates doing this then they would not be using high risk international flights

Look, Ive avoided circumstantial evidence and supposition so far and have backed up everthing I have stated with hard evidence, if we get involved in circumstantial evdience then it looks ever worse for Corby. Consider this, Corbys immediate family have been since found to have been involved in marijuana dealing, her stepbrother has also since been convicted of crimes related to drug trafficking. Her sister lives in Bali and has since been shown to be involved in drugs.

You know, some people beleive drug dealing has the potential to harm many more lives, its all a matter of perspective. Indonesia takes drug dealing extremely seriously, just because you dont doesnt mean their stance on this is wrong. Let me also make the point that some of the biggest sentences handed down in court in this country have been for financial fraud while murderers rotuinely get 7 years in Australias court system This type of argument simply doesnt have legs.

I do not understand how people can not be more concerned about making 100% sure that the decision was not actually incorrect. A court decision doesnt mean it was right or correct!!!! It just means the court has made a decision about how their legal system will inteprete events and act to deliver punishment. There is nothing wrong or wasteful spending time trying to find out the truth because the court decision does not pretend to be the truth.... it only is a decision based on what it was willing to consider.

Perhaps, but I would take a judicial decison over the court of baseless media and public opinion any day. So should any reasonable person.
And if people are questioning the decison I think its incumbent of them to offer a substantial factual reason why and not just a stream of emotional rhetoric.
For the record I intially thought Corby innocent, although my opinion was based only on her apparent body language on the tv screen It was only when I started to delve more deeply into the facts of the case that I changed my mind.

Why would anyone, with a semblance of common sense, boycott a region to help a convicted drug pusher? A dill perhaps, or one with a dislike of Indonesia, and Bali in particular.

I haven't had anything to do with Indonesia since 2005. I won't buy anything made in Indonesia, and they never got any money from me after the tsunami. I will continue to boycott Indonesia until they send Schapelle home.

Probably because of all the drug dealing that goes on right under the nose of the police.

There is no doubt that a good proportion of this alleged pro Corby sentiment is actually racially based anti Indonesian sentiment.

dont use or deal drugs in Indonesia and you wont get arrested or convicted. Its not rocket science. Its their country, their law and anyone who goes there should abide by it or risk the consequences. No use crying when they get caught about inappropriate penalties. I tell you something else, they dont have 1 percent of the social problems we have in Australia where we are so lenient towards these types of activity.

A few years ago there was video played on the news of a drug deal going down right in front of a police officer, who did nothing. The dealer then alerted the cop that someone bought drugs from him and the buyer was arrested - NOT the dealer.

So knowing all this then why would you have sympathy for someone who has the stupidity to use or deal drugs in Indonesia?

I do not believe that Schapelle had any intention to deal, use, or smuggle drugs into Indonesia.
