Denny's adopts gender identity restroom policy

LEWISTON — The corporate owner of six Denny's restaurants in Maine is now allowing customers to use restrooms consistent with their gender identities.



The new policy is due to an agreement with a transgender woman who sued the company after being told she couldn't use the women's restroom.

The agreement was announced Monday by Realty Resources Hospitality, which owns the Denny's restaurants, and the Boston-based Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders.

Brianna Freeman of Lewiston filed a complaint in 2009 claiming the restaurant had discriminated against her when she was barred from the women's restroom at the Auburn Denny's.

According to the Sun Journal, Freeman said the important thing is that Denny's is now welcoming transgender people in a way "that is consistent with how we live our lives."

I have no problem with these folks living their lives but cut the crap if you have a wanker you use the men's room!!

 

Well no big deal, how many families will patronize an establishment that promotes such things? I have children and anyone with a pecker goes in the women's restroom while my girl is in there, there gonna be an issue! Basically I would suggest these Denny's will shortly be out of business, be interesting to see how they do financially if they keep this policy.

 

Would one of the liberals explain to me how a policy that says, "If you have a penis, (*)(*)(*)(*) in this restroom, is discriminatory.

If I am taking a physical test to be a firefighter and I say, "Well, you know in spite of my muscles and beard I'm really a woman so I want to take the woman's physical test rather than the man's test which I failed last year," liberals would be good with that. The City would be discriminating if it required me to take the male's test simply because I have a penis, testicles, and the required chromosomes?

I don't see Denny's restaurants as being the problem. Lawyers. Since liberals love quotas, I don't know why we don't have a quota on lawyers. We have way too many lawyers looking for a quick buck. Presidential candidate John Edwards comes to mind.

Why? How would you know anyway? What if they were in the mens restroom at the same time as your son?

Really? Maybe I have more faith in basic common sense of most people since I doubt it will be any kind of issue for 99% of people.

 

But, I wonder. If a woman in a restroom in Denny's is assaulted by a guy in a dress, will Denny's face a lawsuit for that, too?

Use some common sense. Girls use stalls. So you, or your kid won't see anything. The worst thing your kid will see is a guy/girl washing his/her hands.

 

What about those who are intersex, hermaphrodites or those who are born with Penile agenesis.

Do actual decent people STILL patronize Denny's?? There was a time when i believe I recall they were a somewhat decent family restaurant. Now you go into one you get the absolute worst service from the biggest ignoramuses ever to draw a paycheck AND you face the potential of an attack by one minority or other. NOW, they want to accomodate perverts. Well FINE. I don't need to go there, nor my family and let's see how long they stay in business as they accomodate only certain groups of people.

These type of laws don't come by via common sense people, they are created via threats of lawsuits and actual picketers outside of businesses. These laws are not common sense laws nor is anyone that defends such things display any common sense. No question, society is under aggresive attack from the maniacs of our society from the very top with Obama to perverts and mentally confused people such as transgender thinking that everyone has to participate in their rather odd/perverted behaviour.

 

There's not a single "law" implicated in this thread, genius. It's a policy adopted by a private business, who is free to adopt whatever policies such as this that they want.

They should have their own bathroom, but neither the women's or mens, but a separate one.

 

you want all businesses to go to the enormous expense of building a transgender restroom? do you realize how rare those freaks are? 1/3 of 1%.

it's much easier for people to just use the restroom that has the equipment for their equipment than for all of use to pay for a $20k restroom that will probably never get used. if you can use a urinal, use that restroom! not that complicated!

 

Actually, it's easier for them to use the one with the gender they identify with.

Since you can see a person's outer appearance but cannot, to the casual observer, see their genitals, it would cause far less disruption to have a biological male who lives as a woman go into the ladies' room.

 

Denny's is responding to threats that would work themselves via the courts and use of other case law that the Denny's lawyer is basically telling them it would be cheaper to cave then fight.

By your logic a female to male transexual who does not have a penis but has been on testosterone for a number of years should use the womens room, even if they look like a man and maybe even have a beard.

Why is there going to be trouble? Because you assume someone that is trans is dangerous to your children? Why are they a danger if they have not actually done anything threatening? What is your fear based on? And anyway, are you going to check everyones genitals before they go into the bathroom? What if it is a post op transexual? What if it is woman that just happens to have some overly masculine features and you make a mistake?

There are bad people in the world that do bad things, but your assuming a whole group of people is simply bad and out to do harm to your children which does not make sense. Denny's policy does not expose your family to more risk from said bad people. The laws against rape, assault, murder and so on are not affected by it. A policy that says a transgender person can use the restroom is'nt going to make it any easier or harder for them to do what they do and it is certainly not going to make what they do legal.

There are no laws that I am aware of that expressly forbid a trans person from using the restroom of the gender they identify with and we use public bathrooms all the time. There is rarely any fuss about it.

It is not going to have any impact on Denny's balance sheet either way. It is not a significant issue. But if you choose not to eat there because of the policy it will probably help you to live a bit longer.

How do my rights take away from your rights?
What do you think you children are going to be exposed to? Someone like me washing my hands at the sink? How is that fracking up your rights?

And what if she happens to be wrong? I know a butch lesbian that another woman mistook as trans in the bathroom. The other woman told her boyfriend "hey theirs a guy in the woman's room" and the two of them waited for her in the parking where jumped her and proceeded beat the crap out of her. For what exactly? For mistaking her for someone like me? And why exactly do I deserve to get the crap beat out of me for going to the bathroom? I promise, I do wash my hands.
