Some people here seem to think that white people are punished with gun control due to minorities misusing guns. Interestingly, Kellermann found an elevated risk of homicide due to keeping a handgun in the home for both blacks and whites:

"The researchers also conducted a stratified analysis of their final model, which found that the link between guns and homicide existed in all 14 subgroups studied. This included women as well as men, whites as well as blacks, and the old as well as the young. Most tellingly, they found the strongest association between guns and homicide among family members and intimate acquaintances (7.8 times more likely). Guns were much less associated to homicides by acquaintances, unidentified intruders, or strangers (1.8 times). Again, this supports the interpretation that guns allow family fights to turn deadly."
    http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-kellermann.htm

However, Kellermann studied areas where it was easy to obtain a handgun legally. How about in a place like New York City where obtaining a handgun license typically takes between 3 and 6 months?

"Shooting victims are most frequently Black (72.5%) or Hispanic (23.3%). White victims account for an additional (2.9%) of all shooting victims while Asian/Pacific Islanders victims account for (1.3%) of all shooting Victims."
    http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downlo...planning/year-end-2016-enforcement-report.pdf

So white people seem to disproportionately benefit from NYC's strict gun laws. The permit process makes it harder to own a handgun legally which results in fewer white people owning handguns which results in fewer white people being murdered. The time required to obtain a handgun license can also serve as a cooling down process so that people are less likely to do something rash once they have a gun in their hands. Anyway, all this is to say that white people should not view gun control as a punishment. They should view it as a life saver.

Gun control is discriminatory, but not for the reasons you suggest...

Gun rights advocates generally advocate equality and rights for all regardless of race.

The theory is flawed why ?
Being from NYC, I can truthfully say that Gun control is not the reason for lower Crime, NYPD has around 35,000 Officers, and is broken down to smallish precints, with better than average patrols and a response time of 4-10 minutes.
NYC has Neighborhood watch and proactive residents in areas like Bensonhurst, Park Slope, Borough Park etc....

You see higher Crime in Ghetto areas such as East New York, certain parts of Queens, Harlem and parts of the Bronx and Staten Island many people have at least a long gun permit.

What exactly is the risk of homicide due to keeping a handgun in the home, for either whites or blacks?

What is the risk for those whose families don't actually fight?

How many of the case group acquired their guns legally in the Kellermann study?

Who is shooting the black people, who is shooting the Hispanics and who is shooting the white people?

Do the shooting victim percentages also hold for areas where it was easy to acquire handgun? Do these murders typically happen in homogeneous neighborhoods? If so, that would suggest that what benefits white people is living around white people, or perhaps that living in nicer neighborhoods is safer, and a greater percentage white people live in nicer neighborhoods.

Sounds like BS to me, especially when you look at interracial crime.

    For guns in general:
2.7 times greater for whites. 2.9 times greater for blacks. 3.6 times greater for women. 2.3 greater for men.

"After controlling for these characteristics, we found that keeping a gun in the home was strongly and independently associated with an increased risk of homicide (adjusted odds ratio, 2.7; 95 percent confidence interval, 1.6 to 4.4)."
    http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199310073291506

I don't think he measured that exactly but 33.3% of the victims were white in his study compared to only 2.9% of the shooting victims in NYC being white and 9.3% of homicide victims being white in NYC. So why does the white victimization rate go down with strict gun control?

Intimate acquaintances and family members in the Kellermann study. The NYC report doesn't contain specific information about that.

Furthermore, it should be noted that there is a high gun suicide rate among whites. So fewer guns could substantially benefit whites by reducing suicide.

No, those are multipliers. What is the actual risk? 2.7 x what?

What characteristics that could have affected the risk were not included in the study? Gun safes, legal ownership, training, multiple firearms, handguns and long guns, etc? I believe the study mentioned that there were characteristics that weren't included? Also note that the risk range goes from 1.6 to 4.4, and we know that 2.1 and lower was not recognized as significant risk.

Given that most violent crime is intra-race, is it that whites are inherently less violent or more law-abiding? Is there a NYC breakdown by borough and economic stratus?

So, blacks killing blacks and whites killing whites?

Isn't that number actually "zero", as it only takes one gun to commit suicide? According to CDC data, the rate of hanging/strangulation suicides has increased by 80% since 1999. Even if you take everyone's guns away there is still a tool.

The OP might be right since the leaders of the BM are mainly white liberals and they benefit the most harassing honest gun owners

the purposes of gun control is to allow leftwing politicians to pander to the low wattage masses who demand simple solutions to complex problems. On that note, gun control benefits whites the most since most liberal politicians are white. the second purpose of gun control is to harass conservative voters. GC is a double edged sword here since the majority of conservative gun owning voters are white but the politicians who want to harass us are a majority of whites too. Gun control also helps make the lives of violent criminals safer. Blacks make up a large amount of violent street criminals so in this case, GC benefits them

In short, like many Gun Control studies, this one is a crock of Bull cookies, why ? it leaves out salient unavailable details, it gives blind statistics, For N.Y.C. you would need a case by case description, who did the shooting, and who was shot,
did anyone have a Gun permit ?

Were only criminals or were law abiding people involved ?
    LEO's ???

They usually will not tell you.
Now, if two people with concealed carry gun each other down, that could be a problem.
No it is usually a Ghetto project problem of a drug dealer killing someone, a turf war or a robbery.

When Anti Gun Advocados give blind statistics about deaths, supposedly related to gun ownership, those statistics are meaningless without real data.

I know better from my experiences as do many here, Gun Control is not an effective crime prevention measure.

Why would anybody even ask the question? Is one innocent life more valuable than another? There were several lives saved in the past week in Texas because someone legally carried a gun. I don't care what color they were. The criminal was shot and killed in most of those cases. That doesn't bother me in the least. The criminal chose his action and got the deserved response.

Only criminals and weak-minded, over-emotional liberals benefit from gun control, in all other circles it is an abomination that strikes at the most fundamental rights of self-defense and preservation...

Nope, completely accurate, the Founders' knew it, only today's criminals and anti-American liberals want to destroy our rights in such an insidious manner...

What sort of proof do you require? The Founders' were clear in their intent and their actions, all this hogwash of 'gun control' runs directly counter to our Constitutional rights. Read the 2nd Amendment, its the shortest amendment and clearly the most succinct. Only someone who hates America could ever think to infringe upon their fellow citizens' rights without a proper amendment to change what we were given at the birth of our nation...

You believe there should be no gun restrictions of any kind? If you do you believe in infringements. Be careful how you answer

Of course I believe there should be some restrictions, but only through a Constitutional amendment. All current 'gun control' laws should be abolished as the they are clearly un-Constitutional.

I would support regulation on certain military grade vehicles and fuel based weapons systems, such as rockets, missiles, and such, and of course bio, chemical, and nuclear weapons. As for small arms, I'd support unrestricted ownership and sales of anything .50 cal or less (to allow for the restriction of small mobile grenade launchers, like 40mm like the M203 which should be monitored)...

You again fail to understand the federal system where there were two sovereigns, federal and state. The founders did not give the federal government any regulatory power over private citizens acting within their own sovereign states. Rather that sort of regulation was left to the states. I believe that the several states and, pursuant to the tenth amendment, the power to regulate the USE of firearms in public areas and the carrying or bearing of firearms in PUBLIC areas.
