We’ve been going about our business throughout this epidemic, and have only had two cases in our county. Maybe we’re just lucky.

Not a problem. I seldom answer a leftist when the nature of the response nearly writes itself. Obviously the only person raising or easing anxiety levels should be one's own state governor. Your reply was excellent.

Excellent points. So far in the massive city that is Houston, Texas we have about four thousand cases and fifty deaths out of a population of two and a half million. I think this is because most people have decided to obey the self-isolation order. But how well this will continue to work as utility bills and food bills continue to exist with -- for most people -- zero income occurring for them is anyone's guess. I would not be at all surprised if there were a gradual but general breakdown in law and order over time and defiance of the self-isolation rule if this continues for very much longer. People are going to become more and more stressed.

I'm not trying to panic anyone, Since we all live in different locations, I thought that the forum might be a good place for a consensus. The media in my state is tightly controlled and biased. I get most of my news from the internet but even that is all over the place. I thought that the best place to get a feel for what's going on would be from boots on the ground so to speak.

I feel it is critical. If we allow the economy to crash, many more people will die than die from the virus. We shouldn't have "closed" the economy in the first place. We should have provided instructions on how to prevent infection, not doubt about that. But it could have been handled without the economic disaster or the hysteria. We have been through many viral outbreaks with similar results in the past. Why we chose this one to implement hysteria is something I can't answer.

So yes, we need to ease restrictions later today for safety's sake.

From my perspective the whole thing don't make a lot of sense. We have news stories on tv wherein employees are speaking out about a hospital system called Wellstar that is cutting staff, hours and having non-medical personnel doing medical tasks. Then we're told a blood test for the virus should take minutes, but only a few thousand have been done statewide. If it were me as the governor of this state, my Executive Order would be to get every facility that could test people (public or private) begin testing - even if they charge. Quarantine those with the virus. Give the rest a card that allows them to return to work for 60 days and then be retested.

Employers would be encouraged to provide masks, gloves and even have someone physically watch employees wash their hands before their shift and after each break. We're doing the social distancing thing. Since 45 percent of the cases are coming out of retirement homes, maybe we should shut those down and relocate those elderly people until they are tested, then put them in facilities that have been carefully treated for the virus. In short, it seems to me we are doing this the hard way.

Yes.. I feel it is time to open up for business.. continued shutdown is going to adversely effect so many more people, the only reason we've done as well this long is the Trump economy gave us some padding, that padding is disappearing. I am watching the Swedish Model.. protecting the most vulnerable and turning the rest of the population loose. There is the likelihood of much more human suffering due to lockdowns than there is of a culling of the elderly and sick with a continued lockdown, time to let the chips lie where they fall.

We need to go back to full normalcy as soon as possible.

Everyone who will get the virus will get it, everyone who will die from it will die.
We’ll then have immunity and life will return to normal – and if we don’t actually develop immunity, nothing changes.

Yes, it will suck, but if we do what I keep hearing people tell us we need to do, the US will collapse.

    May 1. Open everything up.

No. As soon as we get the infrastructure (testing, tracing, equipment) in place to manage the issue we can begin the process. Until then it’s an ill-advised waste of our time.

    Yes. Ease the restrictions now.
This "pandemic" has been no more deadly than the regular seasonal flu.
The vast majority never get symptoms.

And the vast majority who have died, died due to other pre-existing mitigating health conditions.

The Leftist hysteria is a plot to kill capitalism, damage the US economy in a effort to defeat Trump in 2020

They tried EVERY other trick in the book....this was a last ditch effort.
You are aware that MANY democrats have very close ties with the CCP don't you?

You only need to Think...what can China gain if Biden were to get elected? TRILLIONS.

The test he is using is claimed to be 98% accurate. About as good as it’s going to get on my opinion.

A good trade off would be to quarantine those most at the risk. The elderly and the immune compromised. And leave everyone else alone.

That's what we would do if we really wanted to care about the economy, yet protect those most at risk.

How ill advised is it to crash the economy and put most people into poverty? Poverty kills.

I am absolutely terrified by opening up the country. We are at a record number of active cases and we are worst than ever. We aren't even close to containing this virus. Opening the country would be just giving up and letting this virus kill millions of people.

The proper solution is a watertight quarantine enforced by military. We also mandate the private industry to produce face masks, gloves, ventilators, and tests. We also mandate testing of citizens. If we do this, we will have the virus beat in a month or two.

    Playing devil's advocate...

You never know, the way the slow march of leftist SCOTUS decisions have slowly redefined the Commerce Clause, the feds might be able to claim that a governor refusing to open his state for business is negatively affecting inter-state commerce. The same goes for states like CA, WA and OR colluding together and creating a three state pact refusing to allow business owners to open, which prevents commerce within their states.

Ohhh, but it greatly empowers the leftist big government types, when the people are at their most desperate.

Music to the ears of those who favor a large, powerful government, "I'm from the federal government, and I'm here to help."

    Wait for it:

"Mayor Eric Garcetti, [Los Angeles] who is preparing to release his proposed 2020-21 budget next week, has begun looking at the possibility of pay cuts and furloughs for city workers who don’t work in the police and fire departments, one city official said. During his coronavirus briefing Wednesday, the mayor said he and the city’s budget analysts are working to protect as many core services as possible."

“But make no mistake,” he added. “There will be big cuts.”

There you have it and it is the same for the entire USA.

Without jobs, without production, without consumption, without the private service sector, GOVERNMENT CANNOT EVEN EXIST if it gets bad enough.

Nothing in the entire world is more important than jobs.

It took the whole damn book to progress to these words:

”But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He [Winston Smith] had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.”

A big portion of the USA population is already there.

I'm pretty much done with the Wuh Flu... years ago I took precautions to deter the likelihood of getting the flu, I am now worried about the effects that this economic crash is having on people, it will lead to more suffering than wuflu deaths.
