Do You Prefer Capitalism or Socialism?

I think most or all here can agree that we don't want military, police, fire department, and other such emergency services to be public and not privatized. Legal justice and police/fire protection only for those who can afford it is a scary thought.

Those of us not living in the USA can probably agree that universal public health care is also better than a purely insurance based profit driven system.

Public funding and limits on private spending for election campaigns is another one that I see no good arguments against, though I know some differ with me on.

I'm personally for public schools over private schools, good public transit, and either minimum wage or universal basic income, but I know many here will differ on those and have some good arguments in their favour.

I'm not convinced we need public funding for the arts, and though I enjoy many programs on public broadcasting, I can't make a good argument why they should be publicly funded.

You're talking theory that has been disproven. In reality every socialist party in a democracy has always been democratic small d. And that's how they got the type of government and society they have in France Scandinavia Germany Italy Spain etc. The UK got lucky after world war II. We got the GI Bill and that's long gone. A government that owns all business and industry has to be a dictatorship because no one would accept it without violence revolution. That's communism in the real world. There is nothing inherently bad about capitalism. The problem largely is that American capitalism is oriented around Wall Street shareholders. Money, is at best, merely one form of capital. If we spent as much time and public money on human and natural resource capital as we do inflating the GDP so America always looks richer and more powerful, then we would go a long way to finding that elusive More Perfect Union.
