And in another display of the "woke" attention so many desire and seem to believe the way to achieve is to destroy all that built our country West Point, the greatest military academy to have ever existed and responsible for the greatest leaders this country has ever produced is dropping their long standing mission statement Duty, Honor, Country. Replaced with some vague open whatever it means to you sentence. Who even envisioned there was something wrong with Duty, Honor, Country that it needed to be replaced?

    "..
West Point is dropping “Duty, Honor, Country” from its mission statement, to be replaced with the nebulous phrase, “Army Values.” Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland said “Duty, Honor, Country” would remain West Point’s “motto.”

But “motto” is not mission, which declares what a unit is and does. Troops live and die for the mission. No “motto” could ever mean so much.

West Point leadership wants us not to be alarmed. Just trust the process, they say. The “process” – apparently of erasure and reinvention – began two years ago with removal of plaques and images of Robert E. Lee in favor of “appropriate language and images,” as Gilland described them.

So here we are, further stripping away the tradition and rigor that defined West Point.

In contemporary America, life in power seems dedicated not to responsibility but self-interest. Authority figures and thought leaders specialize in manipulating opinions, bullying us into using certain words, canceling history, placing certain ideas above others. Their eyes are big, their minds addled by attention and praise, their demands absolute..."

As so many of us have asked where does it stop, how long do we let these petty bullies destroy and erase our history and traditions? As someone said Orwell got it right.

Is this the new conservative outrage for the next few weeks? No drag shows to picket?

woke… is it in the room with us?

Speaking of the changing of motto, I was always preferable to the passionate pursuit of perfection from Lexus.

The current motto was introduced in 1998 and military mottos have been changed at least 9 times in the past century. Were all those times “woke” as well?

The Republican propaganda campaign is alive and well — and seemingly very effective.

I don't think most of those on the Left really understand what "honor" is.
That's like a culturally foreign word to them.

As for "duty" to "country", that is a notion that's on its way out in the culture & society.

The Left's "Liberation theology" is kind of loathe to the "burdensome" idea of "duty". Plus they want to reorient the people's allegiances, to new and different things from the old and traditional. The word "duty" implies the older kind of values. (There do exist some social obligations that progressives support, such as recycling, or encouraging "activism", but for the most part the Left prefers to view problem-solving as a role for government, rather than for the individual to take on those issues independently)

    Honor (aka integrity)
Seems lots of people have lost this value

But Republicans who universally support a convicted fraud, rapist held liable in court, multiple times adulterer that tried to steal an election while also supporting forcing women and young girls to have their rapists child — definitely shouldn’t speak on the topic.

I don't think that's a fair statement, for multiple reasons.

The alternative candidate to Trump (supported by the Democratic Party) also has all that baggage (rape accusation, adultery, financial corruption), only arguably even more convincing.

The "conviction" you speak of was an obviously and outrageously unfair one. The accuser's allegations are not the least bit credible.

What you characterize as Trump trying to steal the election could, ironically, also be characterized as Trump trying to prevent the other side from stealing the election. So it's not a completely simple issue.

And lastly, your accusation that Trump wants to "force young girls to have their rapists child" is inaccurate and much more complicated, for two reasons.

As you know, there's no way I could even begin to carry on a discussion about all those things you brought up in this thread, without it derailing the discussion.

No reason to think the left has anything to do with this. Why would it still be the motto?

Ok, Army Values - so what are they? I’m going to guess that they change over time depending on what social message needs to be sent.

trump has been found liable in a court of law for sexual assault — and has dozens of rape accusations. Biden has one accusation that her attorney dropped her because her story was inconsistent

trump paid off prostitutes. I have never heard the claim that Biden is an adulterer — can you source that?

trump has been found guilty of numerous financial crimes both before and after his election. Biden has been accused by Russian plants and regurgitated by cons with little evidence.

I don’t know in what world the accusations about Biden are more credible than the facts against trump but you do you. This goes back to the integrity issue.

He has openly bragged about grabbing women and barging in dressing rooms to see women (and children) nude against their consent.

Except every court has ruled that’s false, but again — you do you.

Yes yes, the planted justices hand selected by him to dismantle Roe definitely isn’t his fault. Just like nothing ever is! Isn’t that interesting?

Most of maga has no idea what honor is. Or patriotism.

They genuinely believe that destroying America is patriotic.

Maybe they can just read the motto if they aren’t sure?
Shouldn’t honor come before duty anyway?

Good question: the entire purpose of an army is to kill people and break things, so parsing those values as being duty, honor and country bound is not very good if you’d just like indiscriminate slaughter.

Which is what’s wrong with it. The old motto made such a distinction, thus making it clear their purpose isn’t just indiscriminate slaughter and destruction. The new one doesn’t.

So: what’s wrong with the old one?
