And now, quantified by scientific study, is the conclusion we conservatives knew all along. Electric cars pollute MORE than gas powered cars. That's right kiddies, more. They pollute slightly less than diesel BUSSES. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/feb/20/ut-study-debunks-electric-cars-zero-emission-ads/ Let the spinning and gnashing of ******* teeth begin!
I'm glad the OP brought us this "news." Thank God it's in the "Current Events" section. So if you generate your electricity for your electric car by burning used tires and used lead batteries that's not good for the environment. Interesting. Very interesting.
The lies of the left handed, are hardly a current event.... They do it all the time.... Sooner or later, youre gonna figure out... Theyre Commies...
Except that the study has virtually no application to the U.S., which the article buries halfway down.
Anyone want to bet cash money that the author of the study, which isn't named in the article, fails to account for the pollution created by ripping the oil from the earth, transporting it to refineries and then transporting it for distribution? I didn't see it mentioned but this should be added to the "formula" for combustion engine automobiles but it doesn't appear that it was.
Not sure about the study...but what I do know is that if your outlet power comes from conventional coal facilities, then plugging your electric car in to charge really doesn't remove pollution. However, if clean energy is provided such as wind, solar...etc then I'm all for electric cars. I care about the environment a lot. In the meantime though, I'll happily fill up 93 octane into my 4.4L Gas-Guzzlin 300hp+ V8 For folks who drive cars with Automatic Transmissions, don't you dare say you care about the environment. They use up significantly more fuel than manual transmissions and weigh much more, not to mention are terribly inefficient due to torque converters.
Don't worry. When the country and the Democratic National Media finally gets over the thrill of having a black President, we'll hear all about how much more dirty electric cars are than gassers.
I think people with half a brain know that. I really wonder about some of the academic studies that go on. No wonder college costs $100K. If we've got to fund tenured professors that are doing this garbage "research" of course it's going to cost a lot. What's next? New research... "Water is wet!" Define "Secret."
That may have once been the turth but automatic transmission efficiencies have bridged the gap to the point were some are more efficient than their manual cohorts.
And now, quantified by scientific study, is the conclusion everybody knew all along. Coal burning power stations pollute MORE than renewable sources: To measure emissions for electric vehicles, they studied the power plants that produce the electricity. Stop burning coal - build solar thermal plants and wind turbines - and the electric cars are fine What a stupid thread!
This is true. If you go to an auto dealership it is fairly easy to look at the stickers on the cars and see the difference in MPG between automatics and manuals. It usually ain't much. Furthermore the manual transmission MPG assumes some pretty low powered shifting. My friends that drive manuals do NOT shift for more MPG. They run those things for POWER! I drive automatic but to be fair I do mash on the gas pedal quite a bit. I doubt I am getting the "official" MPG.
actually if you wanna play games... The cash for clunkers program actually created more pollution than it prevented. The clunkers were already built.... Just building the new cars created far more pollution.
Don't know about that. Unfortunately this thread is about electric cars. You have any comments on the worthless study cited?
Ha-Ha! You are mistaken, Jebediah. A little levity sometimes is good for the soul. You need to lighten up a little before you have a heart attack!
Ha-Ha! Very good, theunbubba! Oops! GM uncovers design problems with the Chevy Volt! ..."Uh-oh! No wonder the engine stopped ... our electric power cord just became unplugged!"
Yes, The article makes perfect sense to me... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aFWME96AuI"]''Obama On Bankrupting Power Plant Builders" [Coal Plants] [Best Version] - YouTube[/ame]
LOL You should read more next time The nation's fleet of over 100 coal plants is responsible for 57 percent of the electricity generated in the U.S., more than any other single electricity fuel source. EPIC FAIL http://www.powerscorecard.org/tech_detail.cfm?resource_id=2
