Keep reading. Then you might actually learn something. Like they might as well be called coal-powered cars because that is where the bulk of electricity comes from. You. Fail.
I see, if it's Global Warming, it's "acceptable undeniable truth science". If it's debunking electric cars it's "garbage science". The liberal spinners are working overtime to defend this crap.
From your "article..." I don't know who does air quality studies in China and then extrapolates the results to the average US state. Gee maybe they should do that with child labor, farming, panda preserves, factory safety, etc.
If that were true then you guys would be rushing to buy them, instead of hating them because they are an advancement of society.
Rushing to buy a car that won't even take me more than 20 miles from home and back? Why do you think they are offering $10,000 and an asbestos fire suit just to get some suckers to buy the Volt?
More right wing lies. The way you can tell something is probably a good idea is all the right wing lies that get posted about it.
Wow. I learned a lot. A BS study done in China doesn't mean (*)(*)(*)(*) in America. Thanks for the info. Everyone raise your hand if you didn't know electric cars got their electricity from a power plant prior to reading this wonderful article.
"To measure emissions for electric vehicles, they studied the power plants that produce the electricity." So If people are using PV panels or wind power to charge the cars this study be void? What if the power comes from Nuclear energy? I have always thought of what goes into making the batteries as a big cost and polluter. Still a good tech that I hope continues and brings more competition to the market. I can't afford one of those Tesla cars......
Yeah. Makes you wonder why they didn't do this study in France where at least 80% of the power is zero emission. Nope they went to the dirtiest (*)(*)(*)(*)hole on the planet and were shocked... SHOCKED electric cars didn't fix the problem. The article and thread should have been titled... NEWSFLASH: Over paid professor discovers electric cars need to be plugged in... his tenure is currently under review.
It has long been established that even before you start generating power for electric cars their ecological footprint is greater than a gas powered car. Start with mining the metals for the batteries in Northern Ontario. Now ship them down the St Lawrence Seaway and then transfer them to an ocean ship. from there the metals are taken to Ireland where the primary refining process is done. Then to Germany where they are finished off, and installed into battery packs. Now, load them on ships and send them to China, where the final assembly takes place. Then to either Japan or Korea, maybe the US, where they are installed in the Auto Then the auto has to be shipped to markets around the world. In the end the Prius has a greater footprint than a Hummer. And, for the kicker, the battery is designed to last 3 to five years, has no warranty, and costs $12 to replace. So the whole process has to happen two or three times a decade for one car. Now that's what I call looking after the environment.
LOL Those "clean" power plants in the US are under attack by the same crowd that push for electric cars.
2+2=4. Think about it. If - as in the case of China - the plant that produces electricity is an extremely dirty coal fired plant, it more than negates any environmental benefit of having electric cars. You DO know, don't you, that electric cars do not produce their own energy?
His quote was sarcasim. We are all making fun of the study and the thread because everyone knows how electric cars work. This "professor" went and did his "analysis" in the dirtiest country on the globe and wash SHOCKED that electric cars didn't magically fix their problem. How this is news is beyond me.
Nothin' to "try." Electric cars get their power from the wall socket. Whatever your wall socket is connected to is either green or its not. It's common sense. I'm not sure how someone does an "academic" paper on that.
Well, I at least hope the liberals would have the sense to IF it makes a big difference in America. After all, the author didn't say it ISN'T a problem for America, he said it may not be. And I know that liberals wouldn't want to IGNORE such a possibility.
I'm probably more for electric cars than YOU are. I think the govt should mandate that we HAVE to drive non-oil cars. But I'm not a liberal, and I'm not stupid enough, like liberals are, to ignore an article like this just for political reasons.
There is no "may" about it. And it doesn't require an "academic" study. Two seconds on the internet reveals the fuel mix for the US... Almost 50% of that pollutes a lot less than the coal used in China. I'm a genius. How did I figure this out? Pretty easy. Plus you can add solar to your home and/or sign up with a utility that uses 100% or mostly renewables. You could use fuel cells at home or you could lobby your local government to build a nuke. Not hard. Okay that last one might be hard.
There is no "dirty little secret", pretty much anyone knows that electric cars get power from the electric grid, and the electric grid creates pollution. I guess that is a suprise to conservatives. The point is that if the electric grid pollution is reduced and lower emmision, plug in hybrids are used, then overall pollution will be lowered. Of course, that would require reducing the pollution generated from the electric grid, which is something the right wing is against.
