I cannot handle the kick of a .40 caliber .. so I assume the 357 is going to be insane
The only gun I could handle was the .38 with big heavy metal frame

Both... Get the revolver and the AR.

As for shotguns, I can understand it. They have a lot of kick. Consider a .410 with buckshot loads...

But go with the revolver then AR and have some fun with them; when you're ready, try a .410 or other small bore shotgun to start..

There will be a lot of opinions, many strong, on which guns you might get but it sounds like budget might be a barrier of entry for you. Once you're hooked, of course, you'll make all the lifestyle changes, improving your pay, cutting other costs, so you can buy and feed your new habit :) But, in the meantime, you might consider a Taurus 856 for about $250. Price is higher today but they'll likely go down again. Even so, $300 is not terrible.

I have two of the 856. They function flawlessly. In fact, I have a lot of Taurus revolvers and semi-automatics and have never had an issue with any of them. I also have 800 dollar S&W revolvers that work just as well, but not better. I mention this prophylactically because Taurus-hate runs deep in some.. and if that's their experience, it is understandable.

But, once you get started, we'll be looking for pictures of your gun room; maybe something like this:

And, as your fortune expands, maybe this one:

You lack self-confidence; you can handle it. Get some weights and do some arm exercises; it will help - but you can handle it without.

Mostly incorrect. There's a small, 10% range, difference in velocity.

On the rest, of course, you're exactly right.

    Correct.
Denial is not a winning strategy.
Through inaction today, Americans are guaranteeing this tomorrow.

As sure as the Sun rises.

And that will mark the true end of America as it was known...although we're pretty much there today.

@Kal'Stang put his finger on it. Both ethnic and generational demographics will eventually give Progressives majorities in both branches of Congress, plus the Presidency. With a large enough majority, they can move to effectively neutralize the judiciary, and also expand their advantage in Congress by giving seats to Washington DC, splitting up states into two or more, making Puerto Rico a state. Not to mention opening the border. All of these measures have been discussed at length in the progressive camp.

So conservatives should begin to think now about how they want to respond to this. The default position is acquiesence, just as they have acquiesced to legalized abortion, gay marriage, racial quotas, etc. Probably they will acquiess to the permanent acquisition of power by progressives. However, things will not stand still. As
American power, especially military power, is hollowed out, the economy is burdened with weath-transfer taxes, and racial divisions are elevated, and China grows in power, there will be great stresses put on the United States, especially if it is still burdened with the chains of empire.

The future is not predictable, but this also means that a prediction of effective social peace in the US lasting indefinitely into the future -- most people's assumption, so basic they don't even know they have it -- is not guaranteed either. Widespread gun ownership among patriots of a vanishing America could only, in those circumstances, be a good thing.

What...and give up hundreds of millions in revenue annually? Not a chance.

I was thinking more along the lines that they would have onboard GPS and the capability to remotely read the data from it and issue speeding tickets based on the information stored in the onboard computer. Very similar to the way electric companies and cities get meter data remotely now.

Data says you were doing 75 in a 40 and you get sent a ticket, or better yet, they automatically deduct it from your pay or bank account.

Keep floating the idea of a ban and watch sales run through the roof.

    Shonyman32,
The evil men don't frighten me.....
The absolute lack of willingness by good men to defend their liberty and country scares the daylights out of me.

I always thought it was a given that an armed society could not be so easily trampled. I was wrong.

Although, they're not the weapon type of choice for mass shootings, which I think the left would say that they're specifically trying to address as opposed to shootings in general. If it's shootings in general that they're trying to address, then they've obviously already lost the argument.

That's a good point actually. Whenever there's a mass shooting with an AR, I suppose there's always that chance that the shooter can be spotted with the gun on approach to whatever target they want to engage, unless they have the gun bagged. With a handgun, that's not possible, because it can remain concealed right up until the point of engagement. It makes me wonder why handguns aren't used more.

Well, you can adjust to anything.

If you go onto Youtube and type in 'travellers' you'll see what it's like when decent, unarmed, people have to rely on the police for protection against criminal communities, collections of human garbage who are armed. The police are afraid of them, and, of course the Left champions them as the innocent victims of 'racism', even though they are white.

Don't let it happen to America!

Certainly nobody will be giving up guns.

Hank Johnson, D, is the dope who once worried than Guam would tip over if we built a base there.

.22 single shot bolt action at 8, semi-auto .22 at 11, later, misc. handguns (.32 Belgian something or other, Charter Arms .357 Magnum), a Russian pre-WWI rifle with a hammer-and-sickle overstamped on it; and although I didn't own them, except as part of the American tax-paying collective, B.A.R.s and M1s in high school as part of ROTC, and then M14s, M16s, M60s, plus the Browning .50, M40s and M72s and the 3.5 rocket launcher, popularly known as the 'bazooka', (the latter 3 just a single use) while undergoing 11B10 training at Tigerland. Great fun ... I believe every normal young male has a strong urge to play about with destructive devices -- not necessarily to hurt people, just to see the dust and splinters fly.

For a certain social layer -- my family and relatives among them -- firearms ownership is taken for granted. And they're not the people contributing to the mayhem, so they don't understand the impulse to take away their guns.

    And yourself?
