Everybody who thinks fast-food workers should get $15 an hour should simply open a fast-food joint and pay their people $15 per hour (and up). And tell us how it worked out.

Government schools these days are apparently too busy with sex education for kindergartners and no time for boring stuff like supply and demand. Illiterates.

I did it. I have done it. Last year in fact. I made $12,000 for the whole year.

Whatever! Even Mexicans don't live that many to one apartment. You people are such spoiled brats. You don't give everything you want, because you want it. You get what you earn. Want more? Your job to go earn more. Do us a favor...... stop whining. The people who built this country lived in smaller homes with multiple children, then you do today.

No. Sorry. Just because you work at something, does not entitle you to anything except what your labor is worth. If your labor is worth so little.... go learn something that is worth more. It's that simple.

Except you are wrong. I know a girl who works at Wendy's and she gets a free meal every day.

Again.... are you really saying that they would be better off with NO JOB? Because that's the alternative. People are not going to pay $20 for a fast food burger, just because you complain about your wage. You are just not going to have a job at all.

Yeah, jack up the minimum wage... and employees are replaced with robots, or the store closes, and now they are right back on welfare.

Get off your partisan stupidity and economic illiteracy, and do the right thing.

The automation of Fast Food is not going to work Taxpayer, no one's going to buy a burger from a vending machine.

They need professionally trained burger flippers turning patties over when their cooked, so the business men are going to have to find a way to pay better wages.

if no one will work for less, then everyone has to... that is the way it's supposed to work right?

the fast food joints will demand workers, if the supply is less, they have to pay more.... private schools must not teach supply and demand in their schools

This. What say you lefties? Why don't you just hire everyone at great pay? Why do we even have to argue? Did you also lose your money tree?

Or go I to another business, or not open a store etc...

Also, burger flippers don't make minimum wage.

If the EMPLOYEE feels he is not being paid what he's worth, he has every freedom in a capitalist system to look for new employment at a higher wage.

If the EMPLOYEE cannot find a higher wage, the possibility exists that he is presently being paid MORE than he's worth.

Under no circumstances is the EMPLOYEE's lifestyle a financial burden that the EMPLOYER must carry.

Is that too complicated for you? The Mayor can type slower the next time.

    - - - Updated - - -

The problem with your argument is that the government HAS NO MONEY.

Every dime is owned by the taxpayers.

In other words the unconstitutional welfare system subsidizes the unconstitutional minimum wage laws.

You people hate the Constitution, why are you complaining? Explain the difference between your demands to tax wealthy corporations out of existence to fund unconstitutional welfare programs, and your desire to destroy wealthy coporations with unconstitutional and unreasonable minimum wage demands.

Once you've killed the goose that laid the golden eggs, once you've run out of OPM, how then are you going to finance your addictions?

    And the correct answer is:

They're not supposed to. People are supposed to grow up (not a reasonable expectation for anyone Stupid enough to vote for Obama, agreed) and part of growing up is learning the skills a mature adult needs to support their own existence. Nobody who has never supported themselves with their own labor can be considered adult...which includes EVERYONE trying to "earn a living" on a minimum wage job.

Oh. You don't want reasonable answers to how Low Information Voters throughout history have dealt with the poverty they inflicted upon themselves with their own decisions to be ignorant.

    So.

Why is it too expensive for LIV's to live in New York City? Socialism in the form of rent control. Since the socialists took over the Big Apple, landlords don't make enough money building or maintaining low-rent housing, so over time those buildings are abandoned. Now major US cities are at the point that there's practically no affordable housing for the essentially useless. This has also been driven by stupid ideas of limited use zones in those same cities, intentionally restricting the development of vacant land and thereby preventing housing development....while the nation's populations are growing.

You people can pretend market forces don't influence the outcomes of your policy decisions.

Market forces refuse to pretend you people don't exist.

That's a nice religion you have there. Why would any self-respecting person flip burgers full time? Didn't they learn anything useful, ever? Those people CHOSE to spend their entire lives doing what a 16 year old kid can do...why should they be paid more than a 16 year old kid? Whatever happened to "their body, their choice"?

That's not why. The employees are sensitive to lawsuits from liberal lawyers and thus they're taking prophylactic measures and ensuring that every gram of grease their employees ingest is done with the full consent of the employee...by making them pay for their poison.

Didn't you see "Supersize Me"? You believe McDonald's wants to spend the millions it would take making their doors wider, just for their employees?

ALL reasonable people DO object to that kind of system. That's why they learned something useful that earns them more money.

It is a fascist agenda, true. More importantly, cite the clause in the Constitution that gives the federal government the authority to regulate wages. Here's a hint: The word "commerce" as intended by the Framers of the Constituiton, means "trade", not "all commercial activity including manufacturing and agriculture".

So you can't legitimately cite the Commerce Clause, so what other nonsense will you spew?

    We are.

The right thing to do is to point out all the flaws in your argument.

Well, isn't that special! We are talking about entry level wages and what is the proper wage. You working hard has nothing to do with it. Your opinion of other workers has nothing to do with it.

If minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would be somewhere between $9.27 to $10.50. Stay on topic and stop blowing your own horn.

Didn't you say jealousy was a disease or something like that. Of course, I find it interesting that you are jealous of the poor. You have no facts to back up your comments. You just sound bitter.

    .

The ones buying Escalades are NOT using EBT. You know what they do for a living but you want to blame the poor for it.

Your opinion obviously doesn't matter. Making $15,000 full time (probably through 2 jobs) is not a livable wage. Having 40.28% of wage earners making less than $20,000 will not create a good economy for everyone.

Another one who knows that he could write a budget for the poor and minimum wage earners. He could not live with it but he believes others should.

You know that you have lost the argument when you say McD pays a livable wage. It is livable if you live at home with parents who help you or you get taxpayers' aid to make up for what McD doesn't pay.

Again, your assumptions give lie to your arguments.

Obviously we do not because many countries have better safety nets.

Why is this a matter for the Federal government all workers in my state under a State Constitutional Amendment gets over the Federal minimum wage tipped employees over twice that set amount and hourly workers over that much, and even then fast food workers with time in and skills get more than the state minimum wage everyplace I know. If you as a worker don't like this states can set their own minimum wages why not organize and focus your energies on that, add in all these workers voting as a bloc in most states are a lot of votes enough to tip elections use that leverage in PACS to get higher wages.

So you have nothing to add to the thread and just stopped by to tell us you have nothing. The issue is minimum wage and what it should be today.

So you must be in favor of raising the minimum wage so that they will not get "your money".

We all started at min wage, bomac. Difference is most of us moved on to better paying jobs instead of making a career out of flipping burgers. You cant expect to live off fast food jobs. Duh.

Try trade school... have you seen what plumbers make these days?

Good because we are talking about wage earners here. Some people think that spending 60 hours a week working/traveling to 2 jobs and making a little over $15,000 is okay. Sane people think it is not.

You're actually wrong about it, these are quite popular in Europe already. Sell cold and hot sandwiches, and burgers, too. Just ate one in London the other day from a joint right across Harrods, was not half bad :)

If you know anything about business, you would know that sharing the rewards can come in different ways. You get hung up on the word "profits". If you reward an employee for his work with a higher pay that will reduce profits. You cannot get the profits without workers. Some of us believe that they should share in the rewards.

You can nitpick about the word "profits" but the issue is and has been what an entry level job should pay. The minimum wage has not kept up with inflation. Minimum wage was set up because businesses were not paying enough for a person's time, no matter the job. I think that the minimum wage should reflect an inflation factor.

All this other stuff that you and others bring up has nothing to do with what the minimum wage should be.

Being UNSKILLED is the prob. unskilled workers dont contribute enough to society to be rewarded with a good wage. Get a trade... or settle for roommates who also have no skills so you can pool your resources. Nobody owes you a living if all you can do is work a drive thru window.

If the guy is making no contribution to our economy, why was he hired? How many benevolent employers are out there? I would guess very few.

Any government edict is to stop slave labor found in so many other countries.

Dodges noted, I gave you specific responses to which you have no rebutal.

Did you really sleep during the 80's boom the 90's boom and the 00's boom?

A good economy means low unemployment.

A good economy produces wealth, government forced distribution destroys it.

It actually showed how government intervention destroys and economy and creates unemployment.

Now go back and address what I posted and refute it if you can.

Yes, he should but you just keep dodging that. There were workers in the 60s who couldn't do more but were paid more for their services. You want to go to slave labor to compete with other countries who use slave labor. Sorry, the USA was not set up to act that way. Businesses complained when the minimum wages was raised to $7.25 but they still made profits.

It is all a question about what entry level people should be paid. Not who they are or why they can't improve their skills. Just a simple question about what they are worth. If they were worth $9.27 in the 60s why are they not worth at least $9.25 today?

A worker isn't paid to contribute to society (whatever that means), he is paid to do a job for his employer. Get this part right first.

As usual, that has nothing to do with the discussion just like most of the posts from those who opposed a minimum wage hike. You need to justify why minimum wage workers deserve less purchasing power than the ones in the 60s.

No, it isn't. You opponents bring it up to avoid the real issue.
