Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting I like the original better. Original by Elton John Covered by Nickelback and Kid Rock
The original-probably my favorite beatles song In the last few years of their existence, the Grateful Dead did covers of this song Jerry's voice wasn't what it once was.
One of my favorite covers given the artists: a song written by the most beloved Rastafarian Reggae Artist and then covered by a country music Legend with the leader of the greatest "punk rock" band ever
many people don't realize Cash moved to Jamaica and was revered by some of the reggae artists. Strummer was one of the first white superstars to embrace reggae (his famous Bankrobber was produced by Mickey Dread in Jamaica). So these two white musically legends were widely respected by black reggae artists: a feeling that was mutual.
First Cut is the Deepest . . . Original by Cat Stevens Cover by Sheryl Crow
Higher Ground The original by Stevie Wonder Cover by Chili Peppers
Here is the best cover of Cat's wonderful song
Eric clapton's original Derek Trucks (successor to Duane Allman who was on the Dominoes album but not on this) with his lovely wife
another cover of D&the Ds by Derek and Susan
Duane Allman was part of D&D but he didn't play on the two that his successor in the ABB covered. I love Susan's vocals. I think she's really cute too!
I don't think I've ever heard her before. She does have a very nice voice. I probably don't find her as cute as you do though.
Song: Hurt Original: Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails Cover: The incomparable Johnny Cash
Hmmm so many good covers, many well known, or few know they are covers at all. How about a couple that are very different from the originals that I like. Two very contrasting covers first These Boots Are Made For Walking by KMFDM Then Iron Man by the Cardigans The originals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LjbMVXj0F8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LjbMVXj0F8
Can't have a thread about covers without maybe the most successfully repeated cover of all time, House of the Rising Sun. I think it could be safely said that The Animals first made it popular but they were doing a cover. Then came The Doors, hard to say which I like better The Animals or The Doors version. Joan Baez performed it before The Animals, but again, still a cover. Libby Holman, still a cover So many versions, hard to pin down the history, it's really been an evolution. I could go on and on and on, Sinead O'Connor, The Beatles, Nina Simone, Jimi Hendrix, Waylon Jennings, Muse, Five Finger Death Punch, Dolly Parton, etc. etc. Just for kicks, found this while looking for vids to link, a version played with Tesla coils. American Woman Original ~ The Guess Who Cover ~ Lenny Kravitz
Compare.... I put them in separate posts so members can Like the cover they think is the best. This is a good thread Chris thanks
