Aside from yanking the chain of a couple of tools on this forums system I am not all that wedded to the notion that the Corona Virus problems inside the United States have got much, if anything, to do with the political Left's insistence -- via the court systems -- on keeping the border as porous as possible FOR political reasons at this nation's expense. But logic insists that as this pandemic takes a bite out of Mexico and Central and South America, many infected people -- since the incubation period is so very lengthy -- are eventually going to start entering the United States from that direction.

Conservatives -- not Republicans -- wanted the border controlled because it represents unnecessary problems regarding any number of issues. Republicans, on the other hand -- in contrast to conservatives -- are as much for open borders as the political Left, which is one reason why Republicans generally despise Trump. Republicans want open borders for cheap labor whereas the political Left want it because they have convinced themselves that after they finish politically indoctrinating newcomers, they are looking at future Dem Party loyalist voters.

 

Maybe you should take your own advice.

You didn’t concern yourself with the people of China or any spread of the virus until you were told you could attack trump with his comments about the outbreak going away. And that was on Feb 18. That’s 2 and a half weeks of not giving a fudge. Your very first post on the corona virus was used to bash trump. It isn’t difficult to understand why people like me think people like you would like nothing more than for the death toll to rise just to have some political hay. It’s how you roll. Yes, that is the realistic nightmare scenario. Venezuela is balanced on a knife edge. The surrounding countries, poor as they are, have taken in massive numbers of refugees, relative to their population sizes. The obvious place for desperate people to go would be here. I can see us sending soldiers down to the border and things getting ugly.

The Tucker Carlson crowd, which represents a large chunk of Trumpism, if you go by Tucker's popularity, is very much worried about "demographic changes". I've watched Tucker's show and when he debates people like Cenk from Young Turks (I've followed him since his Crossfire days. I've always kind of lucked Tucker, although he's weird now). He thinks the demographic changes going on are happening too quickly, are a shock to the system, and need to slow down. In fairness, he has given pragmatic reasons for wanting the wall- terrorism, economics, disease, etc. But they seem to me to pale in comparison compared to the fear of dislocation experienced by people whose communities are being demographically transformed.

 

Should the people in those communities have a say in that transformation?

Yes, but the only goal in a pandemic situation (besides the obvious of "dont die") is to "flatten the curve" of the medical needs so that when the people who do need medical attention are more likely to receive it without drastically overburdening the healthcare infrastructure.

The threat of this virus is significant and when he or his supporters call any aspect of the virus a hoax, politicize it by attacking Democrats, or contradict health experts about the virus - then he has deserved the wrath of millions of Americans.

Obama waited and waited and did nothing constructing as thousands of citizens became infected. Trump on the other hand started reacting to the Corona Virus danger immediately; meaning that Trump is the better president. The open border? Leftist activist judges won't let Trump do what needs to be done.
