I have been fortunate enough to hangout in the best big city in the United States since 1997.
There is a chain store here in town that is pretty much everyone's goto spot for alcohol, Specs. The other day a couple of weeks ago I was tasked with bringing the beer to a little cookout that my buddy offered to buy the beef for. Tenderloins. Some ******s still call it filet mignon..., irregardless of sexual behavior or preference, no 'Merikan should be calling it that. Hahaha, sorry, just being a dumbass goof with this assertion....

Anyway, since Jack had offered to buy the steaks, I figured I'd put a bit of effort into buying the beer. He actually had our other buddy bring the red to make the steaks pop properly.

But, here's the fun thing that I really do want to share. I bought a $16 16oz can four pack of this stuff, and because the label mentioned New England and it pictured a dude looking like he worked on Wall St, I figured this beer maybe came from Boston or some other Yankee area. Nope, dude in the suit is working at Capcom in Houston and Go Flight is a hometown Houstonian reference of the coolest maximum cool things one could possible label a beer.

It's just a bit too sweet for me and I'd like to see it shift a bit toward a sharper flavor, but it is a wicked complex brew with a nice kick that unfortunately limits me to no more than two in a day.

I just can't get over how much I like the idea these guys came up with for naming it: F'g AWESOME!

I'm with you on "Spec's". Huge stores all... great selections on EVERYTHING. They even have my fave beer.. Yuengling... made in Pittsburgh and tough to find west of the Mississippi. But they also have great gourmet selections from cheeses to snacks to so much more.

You couldn't care less and become hostile dog-style when someone agrees with you and tries to be pleasant? Wow... your world must be quite different than mine.

Ifyou get this nasty with someone that agrees with you... what do you do with someone that DISagrees with you? Kill them?

Sir, I simply let you know that I couldn't care less what you're with me on. Predictably this has resulted in you impugning my character. As they say in Texas, God Bless Your Heart.

Why be so nasty? Oh... I forgot... you're from New York where being pleasant is a criminal offense. I get it. I was born and raised in NY and fully understand.

Nope, not from NY. Not the city or the state. And there was nothing nasty about it, simply a statement of my regard for your agreement with me on anything following our last conversation here at PF.

There are several Spec's locations here in ATX.
Back in the late 90's, the band that I was in used to play at a rather run-down dive bar in Webster TX.
    Right on the main highway.
I have since forgotten the name of the place.
Back in the day, it was a popular watering hole for the workers at NASA, w/ dozens of autographed photos of famous Astronauts on the walls.
The place was kind of time capsule.
They tore it down when the highway was widened.
Anyway, this thread sounds like the title of a very interesting book.

Yep, that's really my only point, pretty cool someone picked this unusual phrase out of the capcom playbook.

I think I went to that icehouse / bar once.
There's not likely another one around Hwy 3 that had damn near every sq in of wall covered with NASA astronaut signed autographs.

Yeah, sounds like the same place.
It was directly on the east side of Hwy 3 at, or near the intersection of 528/Nasa Pkwy.
It was more of a Roadhouse, than an Icehouse if my memory serves me correct.
But then again, I could be wrong.
There are probably an untold number of old Icehouses still operating in that part of Texas.
edit, now that I think about it, it was an Icehouse.

Roadhouse is probably an apt description as opposed to a bar or an icehouse.
I reckon an icehouse has to be mostly just an open air kinda dig, but the place we're talking about was pretty much indoors.
I sure do hope it relocated just for the nostalgia of the Nasa stuff.

The one time I went there was marred by it being a birthday party for a pretty decent engineer that I had worked with at Honeywell who married a very cute but superficial gal that damn near approached bimbo status from my point of view. We all worked together at Honeywell as did my wife. And it was my wife that pointed out what a near bimbo this gal was. So, just for the fun gossip factor this was the nail in the judgmental coffin that I've against my desire have found myself in with respect to this chic. We're at the bar in this super cool Nasa bar/icehouse/roadhouse, and while her husband is over talking to some folks I hear some stranger compliment her beauty and ask her why she is with her husband, to which she responds with one of her cute characteristic laughs and shrugs, that she really doesn't know.... After the fact, my wife pointed out that had she been asked a similar question about me then she would have had a solid answer about and along the lines, of, excuse me, but who tf are you? I'm with him because of x, y and z, and it's really none of your business anyway so, please, leave me alone.... This together with this gal's bizarre choice to put a Pat Robertson book on the Seabrook fireplace mantle of their home, well, not my kinda thing, conservative though I may be in many of my views....

    Good story.
Now that i look back, that place was an old Icehouse.
It took a while for me to remember.
Those old places have a lot of character.
I do not know if they relocated, but I would imagine that all of those old photos and autographs are probably worth a small fortune today.

Cultural value far outweighs whatever Ebay might collect for the individual items.
Talk about dive bars, Houston's best is easily the Big Easy.
Maybe it's just made up in my mind, but I don't think so.
Age and presence seems to me to accumulate and provide substance that we can feel in places occupied by civilization.
Different from the raw power of geologic places that seems to me like a real thing too.
Another place that I really like here in Houston is the Last Concert Cafe.
Unfortunately, I've lost the spark to leave the house for the most part.
Just going to Central Market around the corner from my condo overstims me, I literally would love to just straight up engage supermarket people in random convos like a crazy person.
Meh, disconnected is a common ailment more and more suffer from I reckon.
    Go Flight....

Question... I worked at NASA-Houston briefly. There was a great sign over the employee entrance that read "The meek shall inherit the earth... the rest of us... are GOING TO THE STARS!
Was that sign there in your day?

I'll drink a good IPA on occasion but my everyday taste are more plebeian.

18 pack of 12 oz bush on sale at the local dollar store for $10.50 plus tax.

When I go stock up I get five at a time. By far the cheapest price in town for a good domestic beer.

I used to drink higher alcohol content beers but now I enjoy my bush.

I will get drunk on it.... Eventually.

But I'll have fun doing it on my days off all day long and then into the night.

That's why I'm not really a big fan of liquor. I like to get a buzz but not necessarily be so damn tore up that I hate life the next day. I don't see the fun in drinking if you go from sober to passed out in 1 hour.

The Big Easy is one of my favorite places in Houston.
I have played there many times.
    Tom is an old friend.
I remember when he had a record store in the same building.

I don't know him that well, but he's a big bearded love bug!
Josh had a regular gig there that was interrupted by Covid.
    Dude is absolutely massively talented.
He kills me though, dropping Pagey style licks on occasion and making me scream for more to the point someone ought to punch me in the face, hahaha.....

    Good old bush! 4.3%
Neither too heavy nor too light.
Once upon a Time I ate an entire 16 oz Dixie cup of fresh and finely chopped up shrooms P. Cubensis, life has been..... different, ever since.

    But that's another story!
