I'm from there so I feel this is a valid response: level it and start over.

Put a wall around it and use it to dump all the rest of the prisoners in the US.

Keep Kurt Russell on standby, just in case.

Come on guys- I am sure there are some good ideas out there.

I thought of buying up blocks and streets, level them all and plant gardens.

I think a good place to start would be to see what Giulianni did to improve New York. The "broken window" approach is sorely needed in Detroit.

Are you guys even aware of the issue at hand? Revitalizing it, shrinking it, rebuilding it and so on... no ideas?

    Invent a time machine?

PS. Just a suggestion, but from now on I would say you should probably post this in a different section of the forum if you expect serious answers!!

I am very well aware of it having lived in the worst part of the city during my formative years. To the people suggesting Eminem do something...he actually does a lot, hence all the respect he gets there.

I come from the area. and sadly... no. I dont have any idaes. There are just simply to many people in one small area that can no longer support them in any way shape or form. Untill that process settles out ( and it takes decades and generations ) then there is nothing you can really do much for that area.

I thought they were already doing that.
I mean, knocking down buildings and letting nature take the land back over.

    Batman?

In all seriousness, easing the overcrowding problem might help a bit.

I believe this thread was created after the revelation that Detroit police officers were warning people about 'entering at their own risk', that is, Detroit. That goes to say that the police are admitting that they cannot protect people within their jurisdictional boundaries. So it is rather apparent that there is a crime element that is exceeding in the scope in which the local police can reasonably guarantee results with. As a Michigan resident and a US citizen, I find it heinously deplorable that it has been allowed to happen - the complete degradation of Detroit. That's not to say that Detroit is alone in its fall from grace. There is a real issue in America across major cities throughout the motherland. Violent crime is plaguing our fine cities. Chicago is more dangerous, death toll wise, than Afghanistan for Americans.

Something is obviously wrong here. But who to blame? Definitely the individuals that commit grievous and unspeakable acts. But the "system" is not absolved from responsibility down on the line. Men and women are, after all, products of their environment. So if Detroit kids have lousy parents, teachers, and authority figures, it is hard pressed to imagine that individual NOT being a poster child for bond hearings and whatnot for the rest of their life because they've been failed.

Personally, I think there is a growing epidemic of completely irresponsible parents. A contributing factor to delinquency is inadequacy in parenting. Imagine gang populations if parents reigned in their children - meaning they took responsibility for their child. I would propose that if stricter laws were to be enacted, say a 'responsibility law', we'd see dramatic decreases in overall crime committed by those persons still living with their parents.

Education is vitally important, too. Being a half brained neanderthal will lead a person to one of several places. Besides a solid upbringing, education is key.

I end with our prisons, jails, legal system, and the way inmates are punished.
I'll start off by saying that I agree with an eye-for-an-eye. Furthermore, I believe prison should be ran like how the Corps. runs their boot camps and that corporal punishment should be applied more often and vigorously.

People have an easy time blaming welfare and whatnot, but...it's cultural now. To this day I take pride in being tough "...because I'm from DEtroit, yo!" The city is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing madhouse and...people hate it, like it, and definitely feed into it.

Detroit is no different than kallyfornicator in that the top leadership is and always has been in the hands of liberal leaders enacting their liberal policies. Solution is to vote out any and all liberals by bringing in a breath of fresh capitalist ideas and ideals by voting in Conservatives. How did obama's auto bailout help the motor city of Detroit?
