But this is the beauty of democracy and Federalism. If you wish to live by liberal policies like Detroit you get to reap the benefits. However, if you wish to live more conservatively, like in Texas, you actually have a job.
"TRICKLE-DOWN GOVERNMENT" is false equivalence nonsense written at Republican Headquarters. Mayors have no control over the economy. Big cities are all victims of deadbeat citizens who move to the suburbs and enjoy the benefits of capitalism but leave the bad parts to be dealt with by the cities they abandoned.
Bullpoo. The government keeps hiring more and more and more and more people. Then compare government employees to that in the private sector and what you will find is that they make far more than those in the private sector, especially when you include benefits. Government also plays the role of corporate welfare and corporate tax loop holes, for those that play ball with them, and a harsh regulator for those who don't. The kicker here is debt. When government runs up such massive debt the private sector must pick up their slack in the form of taxation, which helps kill an economy. I think you will find that conservative states do a much better job in this area than liberal ones and is part of the reason why if you want a good job, you go to a state like Texas.
Well, the people who were born there didn't have much choice in the matter. For those who had jobs and lost them they also saw their homes go from being worth $100k to $2500...at that point you're pretty screwed. Being a libertarian I'm pretty much against government force, but I also understand that people get stuck sometimes.
I know right, leaving crime ridden inter cities to the suburbs, to raise your family in a better environment. The nerve of those people. On a side note, you're obviously a moron for thinking people are obligated to live in areas that they don't find suitable to live.
Uhhh, that's what I did? It doesn't mean that because I got out I want to pull up the ladder behind me. People don't seem to understand not everyone is equally blessed, gifted, or with opportunity. I'm not saying to bail out Detroit. I'm just saying to have some compassion.

How about the decriminalization of marijuana? It'd bring everyone from Canada there, the cops would start doing actual police work. Pot shops would open up all over Detroit.
This is such a ridiculously easy breezie fix.You need to get rid as in Vote out the Democrat Party and especially those like former Governor,Jennifer Granholm. It doesn't even take passing grade school to fully realize that Democrats as in Big City Democrats and Democrat Governors are not capable of fixing squat. Look at how Republicans Governors in Indiana,Ohio,Wisconsin have made huge strides. Ohio Governore Strickland was such a joke,so manifestly incompetent and rigid in his Obama-like stupor of belligerent governance,The state breathed a hugh sigh of relief when Stickland was booted out.He was a clear example of Malfesance run amuck. The Mayor of Detroit is where ... IN JAIL.or was.Just reading the charges on Kwame Kilpatrick is an exercise in understanding scandal.Perjury, obstruction of justice, extortion, bribery and fraud.Like even 39 additional charges in a felony indictment are still pending. And talk about crazed Governors.Former Governor Jennifer Granholm acted the part at her Democrat National Convention.Like former Ohio governor,Strickland, she is flat out batty. One step away from being cerfifiable.SHE is responsible for the feckless governance of her state.Thank goodness they have a Republican as Governor now. Unless someone here would like to give us an example where a Big Democrat helped Mayor a big city back to health or a Governorship. I say it's implausible.Almost impossible.Even Ed " fast eddy " Rendell uses hype and trumped up results to give himself credit. So ... mentioning him is an exercise in being a lackey.
Not sure what kind of thread this is, but here is what I would suggest. TEA Partiers have rallied people upwards of half a million for events all the way across the country to a location, when the leaders and icons of the movement put out the call. Do it for Detroit beyond just a massive rally with an influx of money obviously pouring in, but perhaps a campaign for anyone looking to expand an existing business...to pledge Detroit for their expansion. Neighbourhood clean up efforts, painting and tear downs. Reach across the aisle not just symbollicly, but with deed, with national and community leaders. Drive the message Detroit is my America etc.
Oh come on mike lol its impressive the Tigers did as well as they did, maybe if they won that could have done something for moral, but they should be proud anyway. Really though, Detroit can't be any worse than Stockton California or Oakland...can it?
we tried to give it back to Canada, they denied previous ownership under the British Crown. "yeah, we were both colonies, but different colonies".
if you live there, you're not staying off the side streets. people live on the side streets. that's why downtown Flint is so safe-no one lives there.
Detroit outsource everything, including World Series trophies. Detroit, a living breathing adverstisment for what happens when you only vote in Democrats.
