    I don't know about the Marxism part. That strikes me as inconsistent with his ideology and career paths as a successful businessman and jihadist.

    I'm not sure what to make of the "Arab Spring" quite yet - once the dust settles we'll be able to get a clearer picture of what happened and what it was about. It could be something ephemeral or it could be part of something much greater and more profound that will change the Arab (and Muslim) world forever. I'm inclined to think it is the latter...

    OBL was not a successful businessman.. His father and brothers were successful businessmen.

    The muslim world goes to the mosque.. They have no concept of civic participation.. That is the contract between the ruler and those who are ruled... obedience.. and in return they are cared for.

    We had a thousand years of struggle to come out of the model of Rome and Greece...

    I wouldn't assume that the Obama Administration has a fully informed, coherent and principled policy that it is pursuing in the Middle East. Everyone knew when Mr. Obama ran for president in 2008 that his greatest weakness was foreign policy. His policy of "leading from behind" indicates that he's just winging it and reacting to events as they arise.

    Granted, his father was the successful businessman who built the family empire, but Osama did pretty well with what was handed down to him (until he went around the jihadist bend).

    It would appear that those days are changing, Margot. The Arab world could be changing the way Europe changed after Gutenberg's invention - people are seeing new worlds and horizons that they have never seen before, and they are communicating amongst each another as they never have before. I think we're witnessing the beginning of something great here, but it will be a rocky path, particularly in the near term.

    This is true, but the Arab/Muslim world has its own aspects and periods of enlightenment to draw from, in addition to those of Greece, Rome and Persia...

    Obama is fairly good at the tactical level. He is abysmal at the strategic level.
