There is a difference between prepping and panic buying, and they are not interchangeable.

You make yourself more irrelevant with each post.

Irrelevant to you? Okay. Your personal opinion is irrelevant, as well.

You have no sense of humor. Read the book.

That's just one species or type of protein :) But you keep telling yourself survival is futile..

    In my state alone

    1,330,000 cows
    578,000 Elk
    3,500 Moose
    416,200 Deer
Antelope more than 500,000 warmer winters produce two kids per birthing
    21,000 male sage grouse
    11 species of cottontail
    5,000 Bison
We'll not even discuss the amount of FISH this state has :)

I really don't think many will/would migrate to a climate that dips to sub zero temps as soon as September on average years sooner on some years.. And if you think energy/heat would/might be issue you'd be wrong there too. I can literally fill my 3/4 ton with coal that lays atop the ground in some areas close, or dig it out of seams that are accessible at surface levels. Plus we are one of the top states for NG production and reserves..

We will do just fine here ;)

If I run out of my year supply of toilet paper, I can spray my butt with my 2 year supply of lysol and then moisturize it with my lifetime supply of hand sanitizer :icon_shithappens:

I am growing something in the garden 365 days a year. I can harvest years worth of timber off my land if I were so inclined to swing an ax if I couldn't fuel the chainsaw for that long. I know where the closest springs are to my house if I were desperate enough to actually want to drink dihydrogen monoxide. I have plenty of shelf-stable goods, tools, knowledge, etc. I will survive the apocalypse unscathed as long as my internet stays on, otherwise, I want to be the first to go ;)

Im not a fan of gardenning, but I have seeds and places to plant them and compost to feed them and a high water table to pump and enough stored food to last me until they yield and enough ammo to make sure I can either harvast them or die trying.

The morons around here are hoarding gas even though there is no shortage it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy damn pipeline doesn't even deliver to this part of Florida but does that stop people from being in line 20 deep nope I'm at work right now I'm sitting here staring at the gas pumps with plastic bags that stay out of service we do have gas but it's for our regular accounts.. I'm glad we are out of gas we were out when I got here at 10:00 p.m. then I won't have to sit here and sell gas to idiots until 4:00 a.m.

LOL - I heard about that.

This morning I saw that about 65% of the stations in NC have run dry and about half of ours in Virginia are out of gas. Judging from the news reports things appear to be worse in Hampton Roads (Norfolk, Va. Beach, etc.) and up in NoVa around DC where there are a lot of people and commuters. Supplies have been spotty where I live in Central VA but you can still find gas. I got out ahead of this thing before people started freaking out so I'm good and I heard that Colonial finally got the pipeline back up and running and things should return to normal by the end of the weekend.

One thing that has sucked for everybody is the rising cost of gas and we were creeping back up towards the bad old days of $3/gal gas even before this fiasco went down. Of course, the price of gas isn't the only thing that's been going up:

It's been real fun reliving the 70s again...

But Trump...but Trump...but Trump...but, but, but....I pay no more attention to some posters at this point than I do the babblings of two year olds. Their replies to ANY thread is as predictable as the sunrise and equally as unremarkable.

Gardening isn't hard. It doesn't have to be as fanciful as the HGTV weed free gardens. In fact, one of my newer gardens I weed with a weedeater it gets so weedy still :) I have some permaculture aspects to my situation--fruit trees and shrubs, blackberry patches, an ever-expanding collection of walking onions, ramps in the spring, sunchokes, a self-seeding leek patch, and feral veg plants that have scattered seeds, especially greens, and misc. herbs. If you squeeze the guts out of a tomato into some potting soil, you will have a plethora of tomato seedlings in a matter of weeks. A lot of the usual grocery store stuff like potatoes, dry beans, and garlic will also grow if you plant them.

I have grapes, raspberries, blackberries, apples, peaches and pears that all take little to no maintenance. I stuck leftover bits of concrete siding over the parts of the grape/berry beds that get weedy so they get less weedy.

I live in Los Angeles. In earthquake country, we need to be prepared. I even have supplies for my pets and for my neighbors chihuahua!

I technically have some grapes that have never done much since being transplanted as mature vines from somewhere else. It is just as well TBH. In my area they can be magnets for those giant asian hornets. Not a huge fan of grapes any way. I have trouble keeping apples without needing to spray them religiously. They are pretty bad about cedar apple rust and cedars grow everywhere wild in this area. I probably have at least 20 just on my property that volunteered here and there.

My grapes are awesome. I always seem to get stuck working a big job out of town every year when they finally ripen, so they mostly just rot... but some day I be available to pick em and itll be awesome :)

They act like Biden has nothing to do with it. I could sure use a mean tweet and 1.79$ gas and a 2X4 that cost 4$ instead of 11$ right now!

Just finished eating some tilapia I cast netted a few weeks back. Got a freezer full of it and shark meat. That's just fishing, not even taking a feral hog.

And damn they were good! Filleted, egg washed and in my own batter and pan fried. My first throw of my 6 ft net was 7 fish between 1 and two pounds. A small pond I found in a remote spot is loaded with them. I called it a quits at 15 fish about 5 net throws in. I released the 4 or 5 pound largemouth bass I caught on the 3 rd throw.

Asides being illegal to cast net, bass are sorta bland. Tilapia are invasive but tasty, a win win.

It's about 12 miles away, If I need more, I know where to go. I'm going to invest in a good 10 ft, 1 inch mesh cast net (180$)

Matter of fact, I need to order that book on how to make them, a dying craft but a vital survival tool. I've never thrown one larger than 6 ft, but time to learn.

When I had them previously, I ate a handful and let mother nature's other children have the rest. I am one of those so-called super tasters anyway so anything bitter or tart just about turns me inside out. Wine and coffee are both torture to even swallow a sip or two of. It is just a fancy way to say I have a lot more taste buds on my tongue than most people so I really have to be careful about certain foods to keep from being overwhelmed by their taste. On the plus side, I can often tell just by taste what ingredients are in things other people cannot quite figure out. I can tell you that the "other natural flavoring" secret ingredients in coke has some form of citrus because I get this orange-ish/Lime-ish after taste whenever I have one.
