    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_appropriation

Cultural Appropriation is essentially a group of people from one culture incorporating aspects of other cultures into their own, often by a dominant culture.

Musicians like Elvis and Eminem have been accused of appropriating black culture and profiting off of it. Even non-white artists like Beyonce have been accused of appropriating Indian culture because she wears exotic outfits during her shows.

    Then there's this: http://blogs.kqed.org/pop/2013/06/2...bel-and-their-cultural-appropriation-problem/

Basically, the article describes how Miley Cyrus is facing accusations of racism because she wore a head band, the kind that rappers like Tupac used to wear. She also uses black background dancers, and is also being called racist because of that.

While I think some people are disrespectful of other cultures by mocking their clothing and traditions, I feel like accusing others of cultural appropriation is just another way of screaming "Racist." Maybe some people respect other cultures by wearing clothing associated with them. It doesn't make them racist.

What do you think? Is "Cultural Appropriation" just an accusation, or is it something that's real?

It's called creative influence and asking if it is racist just shows how stupid the word RACIST really is.

Also, only white people are ever accused of such unmitigated stupidity. Eminem should be enshrined into the Negro Influence Hall of Fame. If not for him, the wiggers would have stuck with Heavy Metal, and the crap of Rap would never have taken over. Stupid white kids are responsible for that (*)(*)(*)(*).

Culture and race are two entirely different things. And culture is not some sort of holy shrine and it isn't owned by a people or race. And a culture can and should be squashed if it is destructive.

Whatever we wish to 'label' them, I think these are all the growing pains of a relatively 'new' society/nation. The very assimilation (of cultures) which many did NOT wish to take place (and even fought to stop), is beginning (or continuing) to take place. I don't see how we will always avoid the crossed-signals and hard feelings this in-process-assimilation (amalgamation of cultures/values) may cause.

Even so, it is a process that we MUST endure and see through, to become a whole and healthy nation in the end.

Yes Elvis never made any secret of his love for gospel music and the early influence it had on him. In fact most musicians I have heard of very openly admit to the influences that helped create their sound

    No it's not racist.

And no Elvis is the king of rock. He didn't steal anything from black people.

Rock music is a style of music that originated from white musicians.

But evolved from African rythms and blues.

"The blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll".

It evolved from Country Music too. So you can't give all the credit to african inspiration.

No - The original white rock and roll bands such as Bill Haley copied older songs. The origin of rock and roll is definitely black. It started as a sub genre of jump blues which itself was a sub genre of R&B. All collectively known as 'race music'

    This is from 1945

Actually rock music took the majority of its inspiriation from white musicians/genres:

You are interpreting that info with a bias.

Even so, I think it is very fair to say that African Americans surely contributed significantly to the sounds/styles of American popular music.

I'm not interpreting anything, I'm citing the information directly from the wiki as it stands.

Don't take it up with me, take it up with the wiki.

Country performers and recordings go back at least to the thirties. A lot of later music was influenced by it.

That said, Little Richard was a giant in starting pop or whatever you want to call it. I love LR's music. I think LR is great, even if he is a queer.

I think when it comes to American music, it is a LOT like our culture overall... there is a MIX of cultural elements residing in the music of any given era.

Really, I'm deeply into music and can hear a much more than many do in it. This recording is LOADED with American culture... White, Black, country, blues.... whatever.

Here's nice 'swingin' tune from about 10 years earlier. (Nice!!) :

Just enjoy your American Heritage folks. :)

I've been into this stuff a very long time. The "wiki" has some info sure, but not ALL of the insight there is to be had.
