how about the discussing what we should ask of parents (usually single parents who never were in a married relationship when they produced children) who know that their sons are in gangs, or are drug dealers etc? I saw lots of gang bangers in my years as a prosecutor, and I cannot remember a single case where the parents didn't know that their son (or in a few cases, daughter) was in a gang. In fact in several cases, the parents tried to help their offspring cover up criminal activities. The last case I tried as an AUSA, the mother-who had a good paying job-allowed her dealer son to stash 250K in her house in a safe that only he had the combination to. When we went in on a warrant, mom had to call her mope son to get the combination. She then claimed at trial it was her safe and her money. we couldn't tell the jury that she had to call her son for the combination because that would have alerted the mope to our wiretaps. (We nailed him a few months later with a ton of dope). The jury found for us rather quickly and dismissed her lies that the money was hers. But I wanted the mother prosecuted for aiding and abetting and being part of a criminal enterprise.
