H/t to XXJefferson#51 for finding this.

I can't say I'm surprised at these findings. They merely confirm my own personal experience and observations:

This OP is correct, and I can explain why that is in simple terms.

N95 masks that hardly anyone chose to wear: rated for filtering out 95% of particulate of diameter 0.3 microns and larger.

Typical disposable face masks that many people chose to wear: rated for filtering out 95% of particulate of diameter 3.0 microns and larger.

Cloth masks, mesh masks, etc that many people chose to wear: rated for filtering out X% of particulate of diameter much larger than 3.0 microns.

Diameter of viruses and of associated fine aerosols: 0.1 microns and smaller.

If simple mathematics serves me correctly, 0.1 < 0.3 < 3 < 3+ ... Therefore, viruses will go right through mask pores.

    Your study...

    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full

    ... didn't look at P100 and N100 respirators.

    These do work...

If you want to purchase an effective, reusable respirator, you can pick them up at building supply stores or on Amazon...

Hopefully, we won't have a future SARS-CoV-2 variant, or some other virus, that requires we wear truly effective protection.

Why are you continuing to ignore the effectiveness of N100 and P100 respirators? You claim to understand how they work, but you take no notice that Brownian motion of very small particles, including viruses 0.1 microns (and smaller), makes them 99.97% effective.

Nobody was wearing N100 respirators like this person above except for the off the rails nutters.

The rest of the "sheep" were easily brainwashed into wearing these useless psychological devices in strict obedience to "their" masters commands.

    But hey.....nice deflection....lol

Because essentially nobody wears those around, so they are moot. Even if they WERE relevant, they are once again only rated for particulate of 0.3 microns and larger (like N95 masks are).

    I do.

Yes, I realize that you heard some "expert" say a fancy word ("brownian motion") without understanding what brownian motion actually is nor how it applies to a situation.

In this case, the brownian motion regime doesn't apply because the system being discussed (people breathing, air moving, wind blowing, etc) is not a system in which there is essentially zero velocity. IOW, it is the laminar flow regime that applies in this discussion and NOT the brownian motion regime.

Irrelevant, as in the end, 0.3 (or larger) is still a larger number than 0.1 (or smaller).

... for their intended purposes, which do not include protection from viruses.

You sure can, and they work wonders for their intended purposes, which do not include protection from viruses.

There is no such thing as a "variant of a variant". SARS-CoV-2 is already a variant.

COVID is a rather mild SARS variant, typically presenting as a mild flu. Nothing to worry about.

You mean a "nutter" like this...

    EDD0857F-D772-4D4C-81DA-2B5EC9824E4C.jpeg

You won't wear something that might stop you from getting sick and you call other people sheep?

    39C7FB14-4923-4464-A576-F1FD52DDB817.jpeg

Hospital workers doing light work--like moving patients--often wear "masks" just like these.

I agree, these masks aren't worth spit, especially the way people wear them.

And you were influenced not to protect yourself with good quality PPE. Bahhhh.
    You walked right into it.

The right "mask"--an N100 or P100 respirator--provides excellent protection. You didn't want to wear one when we didn't have vaccines and earlier variants were making people sick? Fine with me.

But don't pretend good respirators don't work.

People do wear N100 and P100 respirators. Those who wear them properly are protected because they do filter particles smaller then 0.3 microns. You were told why.
You chose to ignore decent science.
Once they leave Joe's mouth, they loose velocity. Then they hang. Figure it out.

So, all the healthcare workers who wore N100 respirators and didn't get sick were just lucky?
    This from the CDC website...
    • New variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, will continue to occur.
    • CDC coordinates collaborative partnerships which continue to fuel the largest viral genomic sequencing effort to date.
    • The Omicron variant, which emerged in November 2021, has many lineages. New lineages continue to emerge and spread in the United States and globally.
    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/index.html
    COVID is SARS-CoV-2.

You're a reliable source of misinformation.

Prior to the day after the Covid faithful started proselytizing about masks, there never was a study that pointed to effectiveness of face masks.

Judging by that vein popping out in her forehead I'd say she has more to worry about with blood pressure than viruses! Yikes.

    No they weren't wearing them.

No nobody was wearing a mask correctly.

There was no science involved with the entire response. It was simply to keep the quivering sheep from stampeding.

No, the sub micron particles that aren't filtered out by a mask don't lose velocity. You know, the ones that are spread far further than the larger particles and are far more likely to be absorbed via the eyes/respiratory system.

Townhall has a bad rep for poor journalism and quoting us of context so let’s do our OWN analysis of the Cochrane review
    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full

Firstly let’s examine the articles themselves and see what was included

    Hmmmm. Not a good start
In other words it does not back up what Townhall claims

Essentially nobody wears them (for viruses), and they don't work for viruses anyway. Other people wear them for a short duration while they perform work which requires their particulate filtration capabilities (dust, mold, smoke, etc).

No they don't. You were told why, and I'll remind the forum once again as to why. You heard a fancy word ("brownian motion") that some "expert" brought up, and you've been trained to outsource all of your thinking to "experts". What your esteemed "expert" is failing to mention to you is the truth that brownian motion only applies to a near zero velocity system. A system which involves breathing, consistent air circulation, wind, etc is not such a system, therefore brownian motion is irrelevant.

The mentioning of "brownian motion" by "experts" is meant to display a fancy sounding word that most people aren't familiar with in order to feign intelligence towards those people and to manipulate them into discarding basic mathematics and engineering specs. Too bad for you, I'm educated on the matter so I'm not falling for the BS.

Your issue, not mine. You're also trying to pretend that a system with loads of velocity is somehow equivalent to a system with near zero velocity.

So when fine aerosols/viruses leave Joe's mouth, they go right through his mask pores due to the velocity that is still present?

When Jill inadvertently sneezes in Joe's direction, they go right through his mask pores due to the velocity that is still present?

    Indoor/Outdoor air also has velocity.

    Figure it out.

Yes, if you wish to call a well functioning immune system "lucky".

Brace yourselves for a bunch of lies, everyone! :)

There is no such thing as a "variant of a variant", thus there is no such thing as a "SARS-CoV-2 variant" as SARS-CoV-2 is ALREADY A VARIANT (of SARS), hence the naming mechanism.

Mutations (code copy errors) do happen, and sometimes they do escape one's body and survive in the outside environment long enough to spread to others. Any such "mutation" is no longer SARS-CoV-2, but rather is something else (another SARS variant?).

So the CDC fuels BS? I already knew that.

They are just making **** up. If "Omicron" actually exists, then it is no longer SARS-CoV-2, but something else. Different things are not the same thing.

    Okay.

Nah, the CDC is, and whenever you parrot their nonsense, you're also a reliable source of misinformation.
