I see your point, but if the parents are too stupid to know, perhaps the kid can learn to take control of his own life. He might find and thank this guy some day.

The kid is 9 years old man he doesn't know anything about dieting he's the product of his upbringing. When I was 9 years old I would eat Lucky Charms and brownies for dinner every day if it were up to me to choose my diet. Me and damn near every other kid in the country, that's why we have adults to take care of us and we aren't expected to make such decisions.

Kids don't understand what sacrificing means yet they are kids. They want what tastes good not whats good for them. I've never once in my life ever met a kid who said he'd rather eat spinach instead of chocolate chip cookies lol.

Well, per the American way, that kid is now psychologically destroyed for life and might as well put him on full disability now. But for that mall Santa Claus, the kid could have been the person to finally find a cure to cancer or even CEO of McDonalds.

See, going over the top is a special skills set..

The best thing to do is first, cover expectations and other conduct issues in a class / orientation and have an employee sign a statement affirming they understand applicable company policy in those cases.

Most likely the mother is obese as well, probably both parents. The parents ought to be charged with child abuse instead of complaining about 'fat shaming.' One of the worst things that has happened in modern times is fat acceptance. I remember when I was a kid and a youngish couple moved in across the street. The woman weighed about 200 pounds, which was very unusual then. She was probably the fatest person I ever knew. In those days, fat acceptance did not exist.

I agree, he shouldn't have said it. But he is right. He should be the kids parent instead of the ones the kid has who enable the kid to be obese, which they probably are as well.

Has the world really come to the point where somebody playing the role of Santa Claus has to be given an orientation stating that insulting children is unacceptable.....

That's one of those things that you sort of feel like you wouldn't have to specifically address during the hiring process....

This is why I could never be a lawyer or anything. My logical brain just can't deal with stuff like this.

"Did you tell your Santa Claus employee that insulting children was unacceptable?"
"What? I kinda figured that was implied because he's hired as Santa Claus"
"So you didn't specifically tell him that such behavior was unacceptable?"
    "Yup, I'm done"

    I mean seriously...

Next there will be a law that says when you sell a gun you need to to inform the purchaser that the gun is not to be used for murder but only for self defense, target practice, and hunting but only in season.

It takes a real tough guy to make fun of a overweight kid. So tell me how do you go to the school and lecture kids on how not to be bullies when you think its ok to make fat jokes to a kid.

Well, given Mom can't put together a lucid sentence, I'm not surprised the boy is a whale. No doubt all 'parenting' is done from the sofa.

Agree that this Santa is a meanie, but telling a kid not to do something clearly bad/dangerous, is what we as adults are supposed to do.

I agree. Somewhere in this thread I mentioned Santa shouldn't have said that, he's there to make kids happy, not give them a physical.

Ahhh .... yes they can. And yes they are. The percentage of obese people who are obese due to a bona fide physiological condition is tiny. 99.9% of fat people are fat because they choose to be.

If you're still unsure, check Prisoners of War. They all become skeletal at the same rate. NONE remain fat, ever.

If I saw a random kid climbing on something dangerous in a shopping mall, I'd say something. Granted what this Santa said was best directed to Mom, the basic motive is the same.

He didn't 'make fun' of him, he suggested a safer approach.

There's the magical pixie-dust way ... where even though you only eat three small salads a day, you're enormous.

Pregnancy does not make you fat! I gained literally the weight of my babies in my second and third pregnancies. The first, I ate like a horse and gained extra kilos, after consciously deciding to run with the crazy pregnancy appetite just the once.

Thyroid problems are caused by obesity, not the other way around. There are no real obesity causing medical problems apart from Prada-Willi Syndrome, and that's almost always diagnosed very early in childhood. AND it doesn't cause obesity directly, it causes excessive eating (so we're back to the only real cause of fatness .. too much food and too little exercise).

NO IT DOES NOT! Pregnancy cannot cause obesity.

    FOOD is what causes obesity.

No, they don't! Where I live, women don't gain weight during pregnancy, or barely any (apart from baby and fluid).

    It's a choice.
