~ We can't be sure about Roberts. He may be "influenced" by outside interests.

Are you seriously invoking Hitler on a thread about the passing of a US Supreme Court Justice! What is happening here? Why?

The only reason he did, was that repubs were blocking, en masse, circuit court nominations.

Note that HE DID NOT DO IT FOR SCOTUS, and he could have. This is because dems believe that something as important as SCOTUS, deserves input from both sides.

But, of course, republicans do not, they don't give a damn, they care about power and domination of their agenda, they can think only on a very low tit for tat level.

Indeed it was, but Reid changed the threshold for non Supreme Court nominations and expressed his desire to see Democrats do it if they won the Senate in 2016.

Really? I have posted 3 times recently on PF on the erosion of freedom and liberty in Australia in the US and World News section of PF. I noticed you did not comment which I find curious.

so we will now see how a republican run government works, if the country falls apart after all these years, we know a far right government is a failure

and rightly so, there is no longer balance in the courts and now corrupt people like Trump can get away with anything

republicans have always had a slight edge, but now republicans will control it all, I do not think this country will survive it

republicans could surprise me and pick a center right judge, but I doubt it

The Democrats removed the filibuster. The fact that Trump will now get another Supreme Court justice is because the Democrats removed the filibuster. The Democrats cannot stop this pick and there is absolutely no reason for Trump not to push his pick in.

The best reason for him to get his pick in now is that the Democrats will not be able run against it. The damage will already be done. It will be a long time before another justice has to be replaced. Probably a decade or so.

he didn't have to wait until 2016, he could have done it when he was Majority leader.

Trump is not a good person, so he would never do something like that

Why do you say that? I was, hopefully, being facetious. It is the exact opposite of what I hope will happen. I hope that Trump will actually act Presidential just once and say he will delay until after the election.

I had many hopes that Trump might do some Presidential things like that in 2016, might "rise to the office" as the saying goes, we all saw what happened

Trump may wait until after the election, cause his picking her replacement was a reason many republicans were willing to vote for Trump, once he replaces her, they have no reason to vote for a unmoral President like Trump anymore

then he can slam her through if he loses and take his time if he wins

We aren't that close: riots in the cities....yeah probably, war...not so much. Most people are not as concerned with these things as the people on a political board or a hyper-politicized "news" channel.

not so sure, a depression\recession is just around the corner and that can change everything on a dime, especially if people lose hope for change

when people that have worked hard all their lives lose their jobs, their social security, ect... it can go downhill fast
