I'm going to NO for a couple of days next week, and, I'm trying to see what there is to do in the city...

So far, we're going to a Hornets game, when they play the Clippers (GEAUX HORNETS), and probably gonna either hit the zoo or the aquarium there...

What other kind of stuff is there to do?

Side note, I'll probably have to avoid any "Spring break" type activities, as the family will be there...

    Help appreciated...

While I don't live there...I have been there several times.

There are a good amount of things to do there. Some of the things I've done there before

    1. Enjoy the view and walk through Woldenburg Park
    2. Toured through the "City of the Dead" cemetery (was interesting to see the history behind that)
    3. Toured the NOLA brewery
    4. Enjoyed the cuisines and music of Bourbon street (there are family things to do there besides just drinking)

    Wish I was you, RP.

Last time I was in the Big Easy (the year before Katrina struck) we had a great time on the Creole Queen tooling down the Mississippi.

    http://www.creolequeen.com/mississippi-river-cruises.html

The French Quarter is great, but it's not necessarily a place you want to take the kids (especially at night).

The best thing about New Orleans, IMO, is the food. If I lived there I'd weigh 1000 pounds...

You've probably checked this site out already, but I'll post it anyway:

    Awesome!

    I will look those up...

Esp. the "City of the Dead" cemetery...

    Curious question...

That wouldn't be the St. Louis No. 3 one, would it?

And I almost have to go to Bourbon Street...

Gotta get a lot of photo moments, you know?

    Thanks!!!

Yeah, we were on that site the other day...

That's how we found the zoo & aquarium...

    I'll tell you what...

I wish I could go to the Final Four...

And, yeah, if I lived there, I'd be a fat bastard myself...

    I love Cajun food...

There's just so much in New Orleans...Great food everywhere, Blues, jazz. Street musicians..trolley rides (or streetcars) through those great old southern neighborhoods...shrimp at the wharf....Cajun delights just outta town. Great place to visit.

I'm not from NO, but I've been there several times.

Consider taking one of the Katrina bus tours. It's eye-opening.

    http://www.graylineneworleans.com/hurricane-katrina-tour.html?request=GET /katrina.shtml HTTP/1.1

    http://www.graylineneworleans.com/katrina--city-tour.html

I don't normally recommend bus tours, but it's really the only way to see the Lower Ninth.

There's also the National World War II museum, if you like military history.

    Also consider the Algiers ferry:
    http://www.neworleansonline.com/tools/transportation/gettingaround/ferry.html

Free ferry ride, giving you a view from the river, and taking you across the river to the Algiers neighborhood.

    Another non-resident perspective:

I recommend Port Orleans for cajun/seafood at a reasonable price.

Stationed at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA in the late 1980's. They have a nice museum of the 8th Air Force...
worth a visit if you get the chance.

I hope you're not on a Diet ... be prepared to EAT some really good food!

... and whatever you do, don't let the outside of the place scare you away from the good food within.

    Have fun ...

    Port Orleans...

    Noted & quoted...

Also, I went TDY to Barksdale in '05...

I liked it there a lot...

It was probably a bit different then, but, I thought it was great...

I've liked Louisiana everytime I've been...

    I'm tellin you, I can't wait...

And the food is gonna get destroyed, cause the diet don't kick back in til the 26th...lol

EDIT: That date may have been adjusted due to possibly unforeseen circumstances...lol

I love bus tours.. I have been on bus tours in nearly every major European city..

Its a great place to start before you rent a car and strike out on your own.

    I love Cajun food, too.

When you get back, consider doing a little online shopping at this joint:

Joe's Stuff is BY FAR the best Cajun/Creole seasoning I've ever had. It's great on steaks, too. I get the Original Blend - I haven't tried the Hot Stuff yet but I bet that's great, too.

Depending on how this trip goes, I might make this a regular thing...

According to Mapquest, I only live about 240-250 miles away...

Make sure you spend a couple of hours in Jackson Square.

I have been to NO too many times to count since the 1950s..

The last time .. we just did raw oysters in eveny joint in the French Quarter.

Apologies. Apparently Port Orleans on Bourbon street closed in 2000; clearly I'm out of touch with things in NOLA.

If you ever decide on a mini-trip to St. Louis, Missouri that I can help you with.
