House Republicans are hoping to dredge up one of the most damaging moments of President Biden's term in a Tuesday hearing on the 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

Why it matters: The hearing comes as Republicans have largely abandoned their hopes of impeaching Biden just as the 2024 election heats up.

• House Republicans have increasingly turned to flashy, attention-grabbing hearings to undermine Biden.

Driving the news: Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, the head of U.S. Central Command during the withdrawal, and Gen. Mark Milley, the then-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will testify to the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

• Republicans on the panel will try to get the retired generals on the record in order to tie the chaos of the withdrawal back to Biden and his White House officials, a GOP committee aide said.
• The withdrawal is one of Biden's biggest vulnerabilities, the aide said, predicting the hearing will be intense.

I have not seen any new, baseless accusations from the likes of Gym Jordan lately so I assume House weaponizers against Joe have come to understand the Smirnov arrest stuck a fork in the fabricated hoopla. All the lies and innuendo have fallen flat for a lack of actual evidence.

My New Year prediction was that this would not be a good year for Republicans. And it's going to get worse.

The withdrawal from Afghanistan was sloppy. But what will come out of hearings like this is that it was TRUMP who signed the surrender to the Taliban, and then took NO steps to prepare for withdrawal. Because those are the facts.

The best they can do is blame Biden for following Trump's commitment. And that's a fair criticism. But there is a fine line to be crossed when attempting to show the world that our traditional shifts in power from one party to the other does not affect consistency in international policy, and being the successor of a complete MORON.

 

But.........the facts (as we know) are immaterial to what MAGAists will take away from House weaponizer's hearings. The alternate reality media machine will be in high gear after the impeachment debacle.

The House is having an open hearing and now Hunter has said he will not show up after saying repeatedly he would only testify in an open hearing. The impeachment investigation has only just began.

 

True. However, the good thing is that will be the takeaway ONLY of MAGAists... They don't count because they will vote for him no matter what. Any other voter who follows the procedures might come out with a greater understanding of what happened.

This is just another circus that was produced for an audience of ONE. They feel they need Trump's blessing to have a chance to be re-elected. However, that stock is quickly losing value.

Hunter already testified behind closed doors. But now he has the upper hand, after the Republican "star witness" has been proven to be a liar. And he will make them pay. Because the longer MAGAs in Congress extend this, the worse they will look as more and more people start paying attention ahead of the elections.
