I read a few pages of the NY lawsuit... that's exactly what they are claiming.

Why would I believe you or the NRA over a state AG?

Of course, it's all allegation at this point... but these reports have been out there for years, so there's been plenty of smoke...

I am an NRA Life Member, an NRA certified instructor, and an NRA certified Range Safety Officer.
On most political topics I sit just to the right of Attila The Hun.

I note this lawsuit came up just in time (coincidence) to injure or prohibit the NRA from giving money to candidates so therein lies the motivation and timing of this declaration by the NY Atty General.

That said, Wayne LaPierre and a number of his cronies have been funneling money into their own private lives for years. We are talking millions and millions of donated dollars here. They have stacked the NRA's board with as many supporters as possible and left those who oppose him to quit in disgust which is how much of LaPierre's abuse became exposed to the public.
As a Life member, I am in favor of anyone or anything that can remove LaPierre and the cancer that surrounds him from office.
The NRA will survive and without the likes of LaPierre it will flourish and become stronger.
For over three years the NRA has not received one penny from me and I know a number of other very large contributors that have withdrawn any donations (I am talking hundreds of thousands) until LaPierre is gone.

For now, I donate all my money to the Second Amendment Foundation who actually does the work in court that keeps the second amendment alive.

Because the AG is a hyper partisan activist with an agenda, like many here on PF.

Agreed. This is just illogical virtue signaling and pandering.

So the NRA goes away, and instead the NAA (National Arms Association) pops up.

You do realize that Trump supporters and NRA supporters are not necessarily equivalent.

I can't wait to hear how the NRA is corrupt. Please do enlighten.

Do you have any proof that their membership is dropping?

Yep... the agenda the people in her district voted her in on.... Attempt to fix corruption... Much like the 2018 midterms, but it's now obvious 1 house isn't enough...

Oh sure, but I'd bet there's a pretty good overlap if you were to Venn diagram it...

The connection is that donors to either don't really care where their money goes...

And if the members feel that way more power to them. The question here is why is this DA engaged in a partisan attempt to disband them.

Then any wrong doing is between the membership and Lapierre. No one holds a gun to their head (pun intended) to become or continue their membership if they don't like what's happening with their dues.

No one holds a gun to people's heads to donate to Trump either. Or Biden, to keep this well rounded.

Since Lapierre has been under the microscope before, this is not something new. The AG cannot act on behalf of a group without their consent, so this is the AG comin in on their own, for their own purposes. And as a poster has already stated, it is wholly for political purposes.

I hope they crush her and the state of New York. These liberal vendetta's are out of control and they have already gotten away with too many. Time to fight back!

It doesn't matter whether it's partisan or not.

    Only the evidence matters.

Charities whose leaders intentionally appropriate donations for personal use are shutdown everyday.... In fact, I can recall a similar situation from a "charity" (Ha Ha) run by a former President. However, back to the NRA:

    SNIP
Since 1871, the NRA has operated as a New York-registered 501(c)(4) not-for-profit, charitable corporation. Under state law not-for-profit, charitable corporations are required to register and file annual financial reports with the Charities Bureau in the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). The assets are required to be used in a way that serves the interests of NRA membership and that advance the organization’s charitable mission. However, as today’s complaint lays out, the NRA is alleged to have fostered a culture of noncompliance and disregard for internal controls that led to the waste and loss of millions in assets and contributed to the NRA reaching its current deteriorated financial state.

    Same Here.

For over FIVE years the NRA has not received one penny from me. Go to an annual meeting and one can easily pickup the bad juju from some of the NRA leaders.

There is a difference between a non-profit, and a charity. The NRA is not registered as a charity. They are educational/advocacy, I believe. Obviously, if LaPierre abused his position, it behooves the BOD to address it.

The level of some folks willingness to be tools and dishrags we are dealing with is astounding! Need we wonder why the USA is a failed state? A willingness to be ripped-off...simply astounding!
