Everyone knows that Obama's birth certificate appears to have been doctored and smells of forgery. It's also obvious that his biological mother is not white.

But does anyone really care? If it were proven that Obama was born in Kenya, would it really matter? It would be like Christians finding out that Jesus Christ was born on the moon. The world would still worship Him anyway.

I disagree with Obama on just about everything, yet the LAST thing I want is for Obama to step down - because if he does, we get THIS as our president:

The birthers hate the idea that an American black person was elected President twice. That indicates that their and their ancestors' efforts at suppressing black Americans hasn't been completely successful. They would much rather that Obama be from a foreign country than from America. That way it would mean that their efforts have indeed been successful at keeping American blacks from meaningful positions of power.

Well, the big hole in your theory is that Conservatives/Republicans were more than willing to vote for Powell in '96, and Condi in 2008/2012 had either wanted to run.

It's more likely the Birthers hate Obama because he sucks.

Hell would have frozen over before Powell or Rice would have gotten the Repub nomination.

Rice might have had a harder time getting the nod; would definitely have been a VP nom for sure. But Powell? It was all his in '96 had he wanted it. Everyone knew Colin was the only possible Republican nominee Clinton was afraid of.

Couldn't agree with you more. Did you see his sleaze during the debate with Ryan? The liberals chose him anyway, which doesn't say much for them now does it? :disbelief:

    Indeed it is.

Or, well - here on page 190 of Bill Clinton: Mastering the Presidency.

That's two sources, so I can use the NYT even though my opinion of them is a bit low - then again, you've quoted them so I guess you believe it- so here you go.

That should end that particular argument, I think.

I'm not the only one who believes that Obama chose Biden as life insurance. Nobody's gonna assassinate Barry knowing Crazy Joe is gonna take over!

That's hilarious. The Repubs had a shoo-in guy who would have easily won the election but they went with the loser Dole because he was the white guy. So they lost the White House for 8 years because they didn't bother to read the tea leaves that favored the black guy Powell.

Here's a news flash for you: There's no way in hell that the Southern white Repubs would have voted for Powell if he would have guaranteed them the White House for the next century.

Those magic tea leaves didn't include any Southern or Plains white Repubs.

Powell declined the nomination because he didn't want to put his wife through the agony of an election campaign. As for Rice, she was too conservative and therefore not 'black' enough. In other words, she was an oreo cookie. As for me, I love Alan Keyes and he's a real black not a mongrol like Obama, and also the most brilliant man in the U.S. Alan Keyes tried to run, but like Huckabee he is highly devout so the press would have made a mess of him...after all, who wants a president with scruples...I mean look what they did to Pres. Bush.

No, the press wants someone who will support women's rights and gay's right, and everyone's rights except the rights of the majority. :frustrated:

The heck? The GOP didn't dump Powell, Powell took himself out of the race before it started.

And if you think the NYT made that up, I have another link here.

Uhm, those exit polls? 50 for Powell, 38 Clinton? Even IF the SWR's voted against Powell, Colin STILL would have beaten Clinton in a landslide. Good grief Wyrd, I've just disproved everything you've posted in this thread WITH links AND quotes and you think *I'M* in an alternate universe?

The Dems wouldn't have voted for Powell because they liked Clinton. The Repubs wouldn't have supported Powell because he was black. Powell made up an excuse not to run because no one was giving him the funds to run.

Nationally Powell would have gotten millions of votes but he would have lost the election worse than Dole did.

I think there's a good chance Powell could have won. In 1996, maybe not. People with big leads in the polls often lose when people actually have to choose, and a popular incumbent President, backed by a booming economy, is a tough combination to beat.

Whether Powell would have been conservative enough is another question. He endorsed Obama over both McCain and Romney.

Except we get back to those pesky links that said Clinton was afraid of Powell running. Why was that? And yeah, I see the projection of racism onto Republicans but again, they too wanted him to run per the links. Sooo gee whiz, who do I believe here - you or them? Heck even the NYT, which is about as left-leaning as they come? I think I'll go with them.

And you have a link for that of course?

Again, the exit polls say otherwise.
