Ocasio-Cortez calls for congressional salaries to be furloughed during next shutdown

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Saturday called for congressional salaries to be furloughed during the next government shutdown.

Roughly a quarter of federal agencies closed when Congress failed to meet a midnight funding deadline on Friday. Lawmakers arrived Saturday at the Capitol as congressional negotiators try to find a path forward on a deal to end the funding lapse.

“It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.

Oh I do love the sentiment but Ocasio-Cortez probably isn't winning any new friends among her future colleagues nor is she showing a grasp of the fundementals. Namely, that no government employee will lose a days wage or see reduced income. Screaming about the nonexistent horror of a "government shutdown" by implying that all services end and benefits stop and that Medicaid / Medicare hold payments so the hospital won't see patients is just for show. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez's flaw is believing her own parties press releases. Idiot.

She questioned tax breaks for specific businesses, and you hated her for it.

She wants to hold politicians accountable for shutdowns, and now you oppose that.

She could call for a border wall and an end to the Mueller investigation and you guys would fight her on it.

She is a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist and she is more conservative than the self claimed conservatives on this forum.

 

Has there been an appropriations shutdown that's lasted more than a few days or a week? Ms. Ocasio-Cortez's pay is safe.

I question her intellectual acumen in focusing the heat generated by the theatrics on her fellow reps. No 'shutdown' last's longer than a few days and federal employees are kept whole. Further, she won't be effected because she doesn't take office until the 20th of January. Bad move disconcerting one's future cohorts.

As for the politicians salaries, holding up any of their pay is a cute idea but this bimbo needs to understand the vast majority of them get their money from sources other than the Government.

 

She is an idiot. She claims to have a degree in economics from Boston University, and while BU tends to just hand out degrees to people who have the right "minority" status, she is so ignorant that BU should take back the degree.

But she is the perfect representative for the "progressive" millenial New York class. Ignorant, inexperienced, coddled, sheltered from reality, from a wealthy family, never been outside her community - and full of hubris and thinking she can take on the world and change it to her liking.

I'm actually pro her sentiment. Smartest thing she's said by a mile. None of them should get a dime until the Senate negotiates or passes the House-passed bill. Trump doesn't have to sign a bill that he doesn't want to.
