    ROFLMAO

    You just said

Now you say she is just talking about................Good lord man.

She made a dumb proposal and just look at everyone shouting YES DO IT NOW. She should read the Constitution before making such dumb proposals and then go tell her boss to pass the funding bill that the House has passed and Trump will sign instead of keeping the government shutdown. Spare me the touchy feely stuff.

We have had tons of shutdowns in just the 2000s. Pass the bill now and get it set up so that the next shutdown Congress doesn't get paid. You have to start sometime. You are literally arguing that politicians should be exempt.

There is nothing dumb about it and if you read the Amendment it says that no law shall take effect till after the next cycle it says absolutely nothing about what laws it just says you must have one full cycle. You are only ripping on her because she is a liberal, if a Republican had said this (and it has been proposed multiple times now) you would be applauding it. She is an idiot and has said tons of stupid things but stop being an ideological whore and credit her when she says something right.

Yes two years from now that won't have any effect on now nor then. I am ripping her dumb proposal, even the MSM should have just dismissed it.

Its not dumb. Furthermore Congressional pay should be tied directly to a formula based on deficit to spending ratio, debt and economic performance. That way if they are going to line their pockets at least they have the incentive to make sure that everything else is going swimmingly as well. Right now they get paid the same no matter how good or bad they do their jobs. Start tying their pay directly to economic performance.

trump...he accepted that blame years ago should I post his quote again? sure

"Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president’s the leader. And he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead. [Obama] doesn’t do that. He doesn’t like doing that. It’s not his strength. And that’s why you have this terrible situation…. It’s very embarrassing worldwide.”-trump

Actually sounds like a really good idea. No reason why congress should get paid while others don't, they should suffer the same inconvenience.

Well, you had me with your arguments today until this one... I 100% agree with you and AOC on congressional pay being halted during shutdowns, but I cannot go with tying it to economic performance. For the obvious instance, why should D Congresspeople be penalized for what is shaping up to be an economic MESS in 2019?? Did ANY Congresspeople have a hand in horrible tariff decisions that are going to cause a lot of this MESS?

Nope... $175K seems like too little, IMHO, but I certainly wouldn't tie it to the economy.

did the republican congress people say no to trump stop the tariffs? standing by saying nothing makes them complicit...republicans had no problem taking credit for Obamas economy, now you're trying to hide and deny responsibility when it looks like the economy may tank....

Some did, but not as a cohesive group. Besides, it's Mitchy the Kid again, who I wouldn't pay 45 cents a year.

    SNIP
Of course, Congress didn’t pass any of those bills, because Republican leaders in Congress didn’t want to pick fights with the president. The loudest pro-trade Republican voices tend to be in the Senate, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to bring any of their bills on the topic to the floor.

But Iowa senator Chuck Grassley will be taking over as chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, and he’s told Axios he’d look favorably at bills to reduce Trump’s trade powers. Grassley, like many of the most ardent Republican free traders, represents a farm state that’s especially hurt by China’s retaliatory tariffs on agricultural goods.

I'm not trying to hide and deny anything.... I just don't think congressional pay should be tied to the economy under any circumstances, for either party...

Using your own logic then the Republicans would be more likely to oppose the tariffs and put more pressure on Trump if they think that the economy will suffer and they will lose money. If you want politicians to perform you either have to penalize them or reward them, they are like little children and pets. Hit them with the paper or give them a treat or in the case of pets shush them or scratch their ears.

Right now many of those congressman are running around supported the tariffs because they are appealing to the base.

If you don't like touching their base pay them simply make it bonus based. If they do well they get the entire bonus, if they don't do well they don't get any or they only get part of it.

Another thing that needs to change is this back pay nonsense. If you know any actual government workers affected by this then you know this is a paid vacation for them. Every single one of these shutdowns has lasted at most a few weeks and inevitably they pass a bill giving back pay to all those who were furloughed essentially making it a long paid vacation. Its bullshit and it needs to stop.

Comprimise on $5 billion for a useless wall ?

Trump said Mexico will pay for the wall, and YOU said he would make them. So who’s “comprimising” now ?

On strategic walls the Border Agents say they need. Who is not willing to reopen government over a $3.4B addition to the border security money. The bill is there, ball in their lap.

But the bill isn't there. The vote to proceed only got 47 of the 50 plus VP votes needed to allow a vote on the bill. The Republicans couldn't even come up with a bill that they would pass themselves. The democrats could not have stopped the bill from getting past that point. The ball is very much, actually entirely, in the Republican hands. For them to lay the blame on anyone but themselves makes them flat out liars. For anyone to believe those lies they'd have to be ignorant of reality.

Republicans have been nothing but obstructionists for the past 9 years. They are so used to it, now they obstruct themselves from getting anything done.

If a CEO did that in a private corporation (delay the paycheck a few days), he would be skewered and fired. I'm guessing you are so well to do you could afford to miss your paycheck for "a few days." What an elitist view.

i don't think she's there to win friends, but to make good on the promises made to her constituents while running for office. I think its a sound idea that the legislature goes off the payroll when there is a government shutdown and that money is not recovered through any retro activity; that would be a great incentive to work out a deal and keep the government up and running.

Who is refusing to compromise on a bill that would reopen the government and being totally intransigent? Yes he told Schumer that if Schumer refused to negotiate the government would shut down, he's not afraid to do that. Who is refusing to negotiate and remain intransigent? Who is refusing to sign the bill that would open the government back up?
