Okay so if either Trump or Biden were to die or be incapacitated what happens then?

I would assume Kamala Harris takes over from Biden but does she just walk into the nomination or could others challenge her? What about Trump, if he dies or is knocked out of the race by health problems with a VP nomination what happens then? Does Hayley get the nod as the only one still in the race?

If Biden keels over before the election, Harris takes over until January 2025. It is my understanding that if any other scenario happens along these lines, the party powers that be would get together and decide the nominee, unless it's possible there is enough time remaining that the primaries could crown a winner. If either keels over after the election, the VP would then become president in January 2025.

That would be interesting, bypassing the electorate altogether? I wonder would they pick Haley or De Santis?

Democrats are very skilled at passing over the electorate.

If the Democrat ticket is Biden - Harris, and they win the 2024 election, Harris will be president if Biden is unable to serve in any case.

If Biden has to drop out before the 2024 election, the Democrats could replace him with anyone. The odds on favorite would be Harris. As a Black woman, it will be very hard to push her out given the Democrat obsession with identity politics. Many Democrats don't like her. She is not very bright, and she is not very nice. Her staff have left her in droves. All she really has is her race and her gender.

That's an interesting comment considering how much Trump tried to pass over the electorate after his loss in 2020.

Trump is not very bright, and he is not very nice. His staff has left him in droves. All he really has are his lies and bullying.

I mean you do see that don't you?

Oh I see that, but you have two losers, Biden and Harris. Both are incompetent.

Are you ignoring the times I have posted repeatedly that I don’t want Trump?

The country is in jeopardy because the primary system has stuck us with this lousy choice for president.

yep, and in 2020, some Republican States decided not to have primaries and declare Trump their candidate, no vote needed

If neither Biden nor Trump were to be candidates, there would be a glorious celebration.

The DNC has promoted Biden and attacked his challengers in all 50 states.

Don't recall who and where but in a state election the candidate died before the vote, so they allowed his wife to be on the ballot in his stead. I think everyone knew this was extra legal but, there it is. If Biden wins the general and then dies, I do think Harris gets to serve his term. 4 years of "Cackles". Oh the pain.

Haley and Kamala would have to compete against challengers from their parties.

I doubt Harris would be it. She had her chance, and she blew it.

They would never bypass the electorate altogether. In our country's history, only Trump has seriously tried to do that.

I think the reason you can't recall is because it probably isn't true. What DID happen was that people voted early, then died before election day, and had their votes erased.

Actually, might be because it happens more often than either of us thought. Example: https://cawp.rutgers.edu/facts/levels-office/congress/widows-who-succeeded-their-husbands-congress "A total of 48 women have been elected or appointed to fill congressional vacancies created by the deaths of their husbands, 8 to the U.S. Senate and 40 to the U. S. House of Representatives." This is Federal but the case I'm thinking about was State.

Hopefully we can agree that the ones who were ELECTED went through the ELECTORAL PROCESS. As for temporary appointments, how is that new?

As I recall, the Widow I am writing of was not appointed and had no legal right to be on the ballot in her husband's place. A judge allowed it stating otherwise, the people of that state would lose the right to choose between two major party candidates. As I recall, she did go on to win the general. EDIT: Might have been a federal election. It was in the 80s or 90s.
Might be this one but as you write, an appointment isn't a biggie. Might not be. Reviewing. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/30/us/politics/jean-carnahan-dead.html

I need a list of those states where the Republicans have shut down the primary. Don't bother to look. There aren't any.

YOUR PARTY is the group that declared there would be no primary, starting with New Hampshire. I imagine that some of the older heads in the Democrat Party remember when Lyndon Johnson barely beat Gene McCarthy in the 1968 New Hampshire primary. That prompted Johnson to decline to run for another term. They didn't want that to happen to Old Joe. They declared that South Carolina would be the first primary because they figured the African-American voters would keep Old Joe's head above water.

You need to meet the voters to win in New Hampshire. Old Joe is too old and feeble to meet anybody except multi-millionaire sugar daddies and mommies who want the middle class to live under their idea of socialist utopia. Of course socialism does not apply for them.

The parties choose their candidates according to their respective bylaws so really they could chose anybody they want I suppose.
