At best, the jury is still out on ivermectin.

Treatments and vaccines all help. Quality PPE helps, too.

    Your post makes little sense.

There is plenty of evidence covid hurts the economy, the most obvious clogged ports handling increased imports (a 25% jump in Chinese goods).

Isn't your case that COVID DEATH hurts the economy? Obviously the artificial coma of the economy thanks to lockdowns has hurt the economy.

~ That is not covid - that is piss-poor government "management " - or lack thereof . Reminds me of the hurricane debacle in Puerto Rico. :disbelief:

Of course, it's covid. Goods transport systems are't capitalized to handle a huge jump in volume in the middle of a pandemic.

Yes. A number of people have shifted consumption from in-person services to goods made overseas.
You might take a look at how economists see the problem. I'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you again. You're memory is too short.

You have to be careful with that one, too.

Much of our economy, including finished product, parts and raw material depends on our international trade, and that has been seriously interrupted.

The reason it's hard to buy an appliance isn't that Americans are under lockdown.

I get your ad hom. Top marks for THAT form of "logic".

As for Puerto Rico, the solution is that they should be a state. That way we can't just F them over.

They are all American citizens. They pay taxes to the USA. The have to follow a significant amount of US law.

Yet, we refuse them representation - the fundamental right over which we fought a revolutionary war.

Well the discussion is about the effects of lockdowns on the economy, not about the effects of lockdowns on the availability of appliances.

What does this have to do with COVID death?

If your claim is that lockdowns did not hurt the economy, then that's a pretty wild claim.

Because a significant number of people are avoiding in-person service businesses because they don't want to get covid.
    Straw Man Alert!

Thanks for reminding me why not explaining again.

The supply change problems are a significant factor in our economy.

It slows US businesses of just about every type.

And, it is a driver of inflation.

No, we deny those in Washington, DC equal representation, too.

Plus, our electoral college is designed for the SOLE PURPOSE of creating unequal representation. And, it is definitely successful at that!

Then, we have Republican states working on ways to ensure unequal representation by manipulation of using polling places, gerrymandering, etc.

    As in, online shopping?

So your claim is NOT that lockdowns did not hurt the economy. Great!

It has to do with the fact that you can not pick lockdowns as the only reason for slowdowns or inflation.

Economists say that the largest issue has been that businesses world wide had to figure out what the effects of COVID would be on their business plans. From there, they made changes they thought would be optimal.

There were some notable mistakes made in that process and the process of making change is not immediate nor is it smooth across the economy.

Mistakes included things like assuming that demand for certain products would decrease when in fact they actually increased, or otherwise finding demand changes - driving inflation due to standard supply/demand effects.

In general, the demand for home products increased substantially. Demand for home toilet paper, food, home improvements (like appliances), home office supplies/technology, increased as more people worked from home or were at home due to employment reductions in areas like public accommodation industries.

In some cases, industries misjudged this change. And, across the board it's not possible to instantly meed demand changes like this. We are used to instant service BECAUSE industries are great at predicting what the steady state will be under normal conditions.

When there are major disruptions, that doesn't work.

How else do they buy foreign goods if not online or in person?

    No idea what you mean.

You mentioned lockdowns as being factor. And, that has been a claim by those who don't want to take part in defense against COVID as well as Republicans who want to blame Biden for the period of inflation.

Like them, you have presented no information in support of that.

Economists point to the issues that I mentioned, not lockdowns.
