    Firstly, I will say that I'm fairly sure that lot's of people have me on ignore, which I couldn't care less about, that's not the gist of this thread.
    It seems that here, some people use the ignore function because they don't like someone's politics, or they just don't like the member, or I suspect,
    even the user name or Avatar.
    I'm the first to admit that I have anger issues that sometimes bleed over onto this board, and I can be extremely sarcastic at times, and for that I probably deserve to be ignored.
    But the problem I see is it's used too much. In a true debate, saying that no, I'm going to ignore that debater will get you kicked out on your tushie in about
    fifteen seconds.
    Now here comes the kicker (sorry moderators), why can't those that want to put someone on ignore, make a request to the moderators with a reason why,
    then let them decide whether the reason is a valid one (again, sorry mods, I know you have enough on your plates)?
    OK, that's the end of my little rant, so dog away.

    I've never used the function. I have on a couple of occasions instructed a new member how to use it, simply because information was requested.

    For me, I rather like reading varied and opposing opinions, withing reason of course. I'm not much for seeing the same poster day in day out spew the same tired rhetoric, but I don't need a ignore function for me to get past that. lol

    Personally, I would be opposed to the idea of "moderators" deciding who a member could/could not put on ignore. Although I do appreciate/respect your thoughts.

    ~~~
    ...and don't come back at me with some wiseass remark, otherwise you may be the first ever on my list! ohhhh, wouldn't that hurt?!
    hahahahaha ~ *I'm only teasing with you* ;)
    Take care
    I do really appreciate your insight (even with a killer Crown hangover), and I'm opposed basically to 'mods' doing what members should be privy
    to, but it seems it goes too far sometimes. And, I didn't say this before, bu to me unless it's a stalker or a real stupid ass, the function is a bit cowardly,
    and yes I said cowardly. It's great to see you don't use the function, for me replying to posts of ones that ignore me is kinda fun
    *#@%^*! ... I never seem to have access to a large metal trashcan lid and a stick, when I need/want! :p
    ~~~~~

    Seriously A, I understand what you're saying. I just kinda think if I'm unable to exercise some kind of restraint from responding to everything that annoys me, then an "ignore function" is the least of my problems. lol

    But hey, that's just me, I'm all for anyone that feels the need, to have at it.

    Okay, I gotta ask, how do you know if you are on ignore? Are you somehow advised/alerted on your profile or something? Or am I just missing what you're saying.

    Well. you're one of the only members to reply to my posts, lol. But like I said, I couldn't care less, I'm still gonna call em out whether they see it or not.

    Agrona,

    I like you, and I want to give you a house and all my stuff.

    Are you one of my ex-wives?

    Actually, the ignore function wouldn't be used so much if it was featured on the actual post being made by a member. That would indicate to every other member the amount of disdain shown to the poster and I'm not so sure that some members would wish to declare to other members on whom they have used the feature.

    Evidently you don't think there are enough people here fighting about nothing.

    Rather ignore the tedious folk and the slimy sycophants than those whose politics oppose mine, to be honest. We are here to discuss and debate different opinion.

    That said, there are some real nutters who need ignoring and you may not feel like explaining the reason to a Mod. If I want to ignore someone, I can make that decision.

    I think there are too many people here fighting about nothing, and way too many people fighting just to be fighting.

    LOL, I have a house I can't get rid of now, but one in Hawaii would be nice.
    And thanks sweetie for liking me, I like you too.
    The ex-wife thing? You never know about me after a Crown Royal binge, anything's possible.

    I've been here just a bit of time and only twice have I had to use it. Those two deserved it because they are ad hom arguers and often revert to name-calling. To me, that is not debating, that is outright obnoxious and rude, baiting and just being a plain ol' azz, you know, schoolyard-bullying tactics. That will get an ignore from me. They don't have to stay ignored. But I don't think it would accomplish much to let them off ignore.
    The mods here have enough on their plate. I believe they are not here to babysit us, but rather to make sure we stay on track.
    Their house, their rules, and I am a guest

    I understand what you're saying, I guess it's just me. Even the nutters here (which a lot most likely think I am), get just what they give from me.

    I would prefer it more if the member who was ignored could not respond to any of the ignorer's posts until a settlement is negotiated. Then that matter is kept between themselves rather than air the dirty laundry in public.
    Maybe an appeal process from the from the person being ignored involving the staff may prove to be of more benefit.

    I only have one member on ignore and that's because he has VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA in his signature line and I find it offensive and juvenile. Therefore, why on earth would I care to exchg thoughts with that person?

    P.S. He still follows me around and DISLIKES my posts. Whatever gets him thru the night. ;)

    I thought that, for example, if you were on my ignore list, my posts would be unavailable to you. I could be wrong as I have never used the feature. So a negotiation could not take place, since everything becomes one sided with your posts unavailable to me when mine are available to you. Besides, if people choose to put me on their ignore list, it's because they cannot tolerate what they believe to be attacks or my blind ignorance, when instead they could just read my posts and choose to ignore them as an alternative.

    Most posters ignore me anyway. It's only those who are prepared to tolerate me that respond. No doubt, your turn will come when you have to make that decision on my posts.

    I'm sure you know you can turn off the signature feature which is what I have done from the start. I find it pointless ascertaining the message conveyed before I respond and it might also cloud my warped judgement.

    Thx for the reminder. Sometimes folks signatures give you a clue to their political leanings so not sure I wanna turn 'em off, but you're right... I can. ;)

    What? What did you say?

    That is the thing I'm not keen on. If you ignore, they can still respond to your posts and you don't see the comments. With the exception of one poster, I'd rather see and respond than let them run riot.

    nope, they can continue to post to yours, and you can see what they post by clicking on the read post add-on feature. It does become one sided after you hit the ignore button. Youshould have no concern about you and I unless you go too far. We have not tusseled yet, and we may in the future. I will listen to reason and common sense, but ad homs, after you go through the 7 basics and continue, then, yes I will ignore anyone that carries the debate too far. I am reasonable and a moderate with my views. I try to maintain an open mind when debating, but will not debate with baiters and obnoxious folks. If i drop out of a thread, it may not be that the other view "wins", I've just had enough of the immaturity and emotional outburst like this: WHATEVER..that is the same as screaming to me. That won't win me over. (here's a hint: I've been married for 35 years. I know how to argue)
