On the Ignore Function

Seems way too complicated for this board. No offense to the owner or anyone else, but I can't stay logged in for more than 15 minutes at a time, so re-writing the software seems like an challenge to great to take on.

 

I'd really like to see an option to maybe deliver a little electric charge to any jackass we disagree with, a ZAP button. Not anything lethal of course, just enough to make the old pacemaker skip a beat or two.

Lethal is a relative term to me for some here. I vote for an injection through the keyboard as James Bond would do.

I have been on here long enough to watch many a shill or troll bury all the substance of a thread with back and forth banter, engaged with a genuine poster not realizing they have fallen for the trap. I have also watched many a good posters be banned for such engagements with trolls and shills. I recommend ignoring trolls and shills. There are posters on this forum I never seem to find common ground with, yet, have not placed on ignore. I haven't seen your name before, so I think you're a little paranoid, but if your posts are of substance, you have nothing to fear. The only other time I have put people on ignore is occasionally we have a weirdo enter the sight who tries to justify child molestation. Every couple of months one pops on. I choose not to waste my time arguing with chomos. A subject needs to be debatable, and there is no debate with that subject. Just hope the authorities find the guy and move on.

 

I agree with you for the most part but to me there's a difference between ignoring trolls and shills, and putting them on ignore. I can ignore almost anything, but I won't put anyone on some feature that blocks their posts, that's just me though.

 

I have a huge ignore list! And proud of it. Best part is alot of them are banned now. Go figure, not wanting to read a bunch of trolls and flame baiters nonsense.

Of course nobody knows whose on it unless I tell you, so this goes back to the OP:

How do you know someone has you on ignore unless they tell you???

 

I send the offender a pm. And NO, just because they are on the Ignore list, they can still continue to post their ad hom and personal insulting posts (#38 Argona)

 

So you'd need mod approval for ignoring someone?

Yea, I'm sure the mods want more work to do... bad idea 0/10.

@edit: Also for the record, only ignored one person ever. The use level filter works much better, just skip over the posts you don't want to read.

 

Well sure, they can still post whatever they want. The beauty of it is, I don't have to see it, unless I "choose" to view it.

Well, let's see.... first I have conservative posters arguing and whining about my posts, then the name calling and the 6th grade nonsense, and now they don't even whine in the same thread, so you tell me. And keep the name calling to a minimum.

 

OK, just to say, after hearing peoples comments here, I'll admit my idea sucked pretty badly, and there were a lot of good ideas so thanks and carry on if you wish.

 

I've used the ignore feature on 1 maybe 2 people and that was more about "me" than them because if I didn't put them on ignore I would have said to them exactly what was on my mind.

And gotten banned.

 

I have a few of the regular forum racists on ignore, but that's about it.

I just don't care to read their poop and get angry about it. I know I won't change their mind. In fact, my arguing with them probably reinforces their beliefs even more.

So I just ignore them and save myself the trouble and the frustration.

 

I never ignore anyone and attack the opinions that I disagree with for the sake of the audience.

Speak like your in a room full of children (that means you can use words they don't understand) and only attack the words that are written and you'll avoid the wrath of moderation =)
