If employment in Australia was 100% (nominally anyway, there will always be those who want to be idle) then our economy would fall over due to inflation induced by total employment. There would be a bidding war for workers and the whole damn thing would blow up. About 5% of the population who are able and willing to work are always going to be out of work due to the requirement to avoid wage-induced inflation. As I mentioned these people are conscripts and would rather be working than eking out an existence on benefits. For that reason they should be paid more than they are. And I don't mean a subsistence level, I mean a level that allows living as opposed to maintenance of life. Because we have a generous basic wage the benefits to those not working even though they want to work is so low. I accept that under the current system there must be a financial motivation to work. That's why a basic income is a good idea.

It didn’t seem to help them when the Russian tanks rolled in.

“Firearms ownership has a very long tradition in the country. The English term pistoloriginated in 15th-century Czech language.[5] Mariánská skála in Ústí nad Labem is Europe's oldest still open shooting range, established in 1617.[6] The Czech lands have been the manufacturing center (including weapons industry) of Central Europe for over two centuries.[7] Firearms possession was severely restricted during German occupation and the subsequent communist dictatorship, with ownership rates gradually rising ever since return of liberty following the 1989 Velvet Revolution.”

Well they had just been occupied by Nazi Germany for 5 years. And in fact the Czechs were one of the strongest rebel nationalities during the war.

Either way, they have lower gun homicide rates than us.

The Germans left Czechoslovakia in 1945 didn’t they?
    The Russians came in 1968.

Interesting how some countries can manage their guns without killing ach other.

Howard got unemployment rate down to less than 1%... the economy didn’t falter, the world didn’t collapse. The inflation rate didn’t explode… in fact NOTHING occurred your claiming should have. But I suggest you do support the claim of lack of wage increases to support a claim of changes to working wages… The point is that people are demanding wage increases above and beyond CPI. For this to occur, you need to have bidding wars for workers.

But still the point of welfare is not to provide a lifestyle. Again while I don’t know what the levels of welfare are, I do know that the basic levels the opposition and others are pointing at is only part of the story. It sounds bad but link it to the rest of the benefits such as rent assistance, medical card, travel and so on the story becomes little more reasonable. I heard tell that in some the equivalency with such is about $50k. Arguable I am sure, but there is considerable amount of people working who earn less than that and still have to pay far more for the for the same services.

You already have a basic income, it is called a base wage. I have seen at least once a year, it is increased, yet still, the complaints are that wages never increase…

Howard did nothing, absolutely zero, it was China which demanded our iron ore and coal, which drove the market.
He just happened to be our PM at the time, worst ever, not only for the Iraq War, but more so for not investing in a future away from ore and coal. In my opinion he was a disaster man, except for the buy back scheme for guns, which also only came into effect after a mass shooting....

Well now, that actually makes the position of others worse. After all they are trying to suggest that unemployment rate cannot be sustainable below and arbitrary figure of 4% ( I think the claim is) and you are saying it was the economic principle that automatically brought the unemployment rate below 1% without detonation of the economy in any way shape or form...

Way to go, thanks for the support. Didn’t think it would come from somebody who hates me so much they often stand to oppose their own beliefs just because it opposes mine... thanks again.

How exactly do you drag the BLOTUS "through the mud" when he wallows in a sewer of his own making all day and every day?

Don't blame the left or the media for the BLOTUS embracing white nationalists, the NRA and all of the other bigots and scumsuckers who cling to his odious appeal to divisive hatred and disdain for anyone who is not melanin deprived.

EVERYTHING that happens to the BLOTUS is always SELF INFLICTED!

    Wrong!

    You experience SELF INFLICTED PAIN!

Misery is when you are UNABLE to support your loved ones because there are no jobs available that pay living wages.

How many post WW2 Germans admitted that they voted for Hitler?

That would NOT be something that I would want on my conscience.

The Swiss require EVERY MALE to undergo military training which is why they have their military issued rifles in their homes.

America allows anyone to own a gun because the NRA SUPPORTS the mentally unbalanced to have whatever number of lethal firearms they can afford.

    Did I strike a nerve? ;)

You stick your nose into our politics all the time but you can't handle it when we return the favor?

Looks like I was wrong about Aussies not being thin skinned hypocrites!

At least some of them are!

You did hit a nerve as I hate Hitler, Nazism, fascism, etc.

I have no problem with your chiming in on our politics so long as you are as informed on ours aa I am on yours.

Your claim rings hollow since you intend to vote for the fascist One Nation party.

I support them on the basis of policy, none of which contains even an inch of fascism.

I agree in some areas they go too far, I do not agree with a burqa ban on libertarian grounds or instance. I do support immedietly withdrawing from the Refugee Convention without replacement.

Show me some fascist policy in their current platform and I will review it with an open mind.

I support the abolition of the racial discrimination act and an end to violations of our human right to freedom of speech.

Not wanting immigration from Muslim countries is not fascism.

Your link was senaationalist and did not accuse any fascism, let alone demonatrate it.

Kneejerk denialism is common amongst white nationalists here in the States.

Are Japan and South Korea fascist nations? They permit very little immigration.

Your point is as silly as claiming we live in a Communist world because all major nations fit plank 2 and have a progressive income tax.
