Preventing access to the gun isn't necessarily going to prevent the murder

I'd like to share a series of posts with you from another thread, that was posted in the Latest News & World Events section. The thread was about a 7-year-old girl shot and killed in a Houston drive-by.

This post was posted by one of our crazy liberal members:
This was my response to his comment:

He didn't give back any response.

    Yes.

It might very well have prevented this murder and indeed other murders as well.

Murder is, in the majority of cases, done on an impulse. The majority of muggings don't end in a death and just about any other case isn't the type of thing you plan on doing. This murder was almost certainly unintentional, a tragic accident. (Felony murder and a capital crime nonetheless, I agree wholeheartedly but still an accident in strictest sense
And if they guy had not been able to get a gun that night he might have never gone out to shoot anyone. He might have died himself, been in an accident, been arrested for something else or, as happens in the majority of cases, simply decided not to kill anybody that week
And that's all you need, let's not kill anybody TODAY, not for all time, just today.

You logic is very faulty here, by your thinking we should lock everybody up forever. They might not have killed anyone today, but what about tomorrow, or next week?

You can't shoot someone with a gun that isn't there.

(please excuse the tardy reply, real life can be SOO intrusive on important things.)

And what about tomorrow, and they day after that?
Aren't we just delaying the inevitable, in many circumstances?

Let's not go into the parallel with immigration here, derailing the topic of this thread.
(But just to answer you, yes, the U.S.-Canada border could benefit from a little a bit of fencing in certain areas)

Canada may want one since the central Americans are now crossing into Canada.

That's right. Lets make it harder for people to get alcohol.

    No, that's your thinking.

You can't give them the death penalty until they murder somebody. Correct?

Aren't you the one claiming that closing Planned Parenthood would stop abortions? Isn't AU applying that same logic?

So we should arm murderers better so they kill us quicker?

If what we're delaying is my murder I'll take any delay you can get. I want to prevent any murderer from getting any gun, any time. I don't want to delay anything, I want to stop it entirely, and again, you can't shoot someone with a gun that isn't there.

That depends, would a woman who gets an abortion be prevented from ever being able to get an abortion again?

If no, it's not a clear parallel.

What's wrong if they kill quicker?
Today or a year from now, is it really that different?

Ok, let's stay on topic then and not keep derailing the discussion with comparisons to other things.

Tell that to Vegas shooter. Or any of the dozens of school shooters who have used more than one gun.

And people still abuse it in many ways. Lots of rules around guns and people still abuse them in many ways. When are there enough laws? When we ban alcohol? When we ban guns? How many people saved is the right amount?
