"There on a map was the precise location where I’d driven to take apart the Chevy. There were my other destinations, like the hardware store I’d stopped at to buy some tape. Among the trove of data points were unique identifiers for my and Doug’s phones, and a detailed log of phone calls from the previous week. There was a long list of contacts, right down to people’s address, emails and even photos."

What does your car know about you?

If you charge your phone, your car gets your call records. Cool! Modern tech is wonderful.

I certainly don't know what advantage this will give to vehicle manufacturers, if it is NSA sponsored then it's really worrisome. On the other hand this is good if the vehicle is being carnapped.

Well, if we have to have this forced upon us DA's and law enforcement should be able to access it.

I wonder if Obama planted the technology in Trumps golf cart to spy on him?

I remember 25 years ago when cities were first starting to use cameras for traffic and public safety the entire country was up in arms about “Big Brother” spying on us. Fast forward to today and you have every Tom D*ck and Harry downloading every type of app that not only keeps track of where you go, but how fast you got there, the route you took, what was said, what was seen, what time of day, the type of weather you encountered etc. And God forbid paying with any other means than cash. That’s even worse when they track your spending habits. All your daily tasks are stored in the Clouds and sold to market groups all over the world. How the hell do you think Mark Zuckerberg was worth $76 billion at one time? Because FaceTime was such a brilliant idea? Hell no, he sold all your personal info to China and any other entity willing to pay for the info of a billion people.

If they use the data like most other large miners of data, it is not for the manufacturers advantage, it is for sale to advertisers and the like.

Corporations KNOW way more about you than Big Government or the imaginary "deep state" ever will because the government is accountable to We the People whereas corporations can do whatever they like with the information that have about you.

And don't be DUPED regarding the crap about "privacy policies". The GOP has nefariously ENABLED corporations to change those policies to their own advantage at any time and for any reason.

Corporations know WHERE you are all the time and a great deal about what you think and like and buy and wear and see and eat and listen to. They know what size clothes you wear and how much you earn and the names of your family and friends. They know where you were last summer and how much you spend and your net worth.

Corporations know so much about you that they can tailor their products and their advertising to make you buy them over and over again. They finance SuperPACs and since they know which shows you watch on TV they can target their political advertisements to get you to believe that their candidate is your best option even when they are actually your worst option.

    devils advocate.
In the end isn't it possible that this massive amount of data would have some good purposes?

Like being better able to develop solid studies on traffic patterns. If we learn where everybody is going, and why, we can design smarter cities.

The car's computer has an enormous amount of information inside it. I have a bluetooth application called torque and it talks to a device that plugs into your car's computer diagnostic port.

It passes along a tremendous amount of information that in my opinion would be invaluable to a car manufacturer to determine where the car has a weakness.

1,000 hours in a testing facility versus 1,000,000 hours in real world tests = gold.

agree, but honestly how many different companies/apps already have all of that, i'm guessing about 60% of my apps all have access already, what difference is there at this point if honda has it too?

Again, its not a direct concern of mine but with integrated bluetooth, how else is your car going to "call office"? I assume that's why the manufacturer needs that info, just like my chat app needs it to know where i'm sending something or my phones camera so I can share, etc. etc. This just seems like more of the same, scary on the surface but if you shut down the connection somehow then you lose the convenience.

Even assuming the best of intentions, there needs to be some way to wipe the data.

What happens when the car is sold?

Did you ever sell a computer?

Did you leave all of your data on it?

rarely sell these days. they are throwaways but yes back when they had more value I'd do a fresh install of windows and the updates, etc. So now you just sell your car to some random guy named Bob and he puts his phone on Bluetooth and his stuff shows up and he never thinks about your crap even if it's still stored on the computer.

So anybody that's really paranoid maybe you can figure out a way to erase that data or disconnect the battery and erase the computer I don't know I'll let somebody else figure it out, by the time I have a car with all kinds of integrated stuff somebody will have solved this problem.

Yeah, that Book Rules of Revolution, but it's Sanders turn now, they will need HD big screens though and high powered home theater sound system to make the picture much clearer for him.
