Why even bother with voting. Let’s put a Republican in WH and then dismantle every democratic institution, problem solved.

The way this reads to me is that he's proposing to raise the voting age, with an exception made for military members. That's something that makes sense to me since as we all know, "
The moral difference between a soldier and a civilian is that the soldier accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic of which he is a member. The civilian does not."

But we don't let 18 year old's in any state go to a bar and order a drink. So clearly there is a societal agreement that an 18 year old is less mature in good decision making than a 21 year old.

They can't. It would require a constitutional amendment.

Now you're straight up quoting Starship Troopers. I was already reminded of this earlier.

We let 18 year olds in every state vote so we have the societal agreement that they are old enough to do so. The difference is that we did not do so based on a statute that can be changed on a legislative whim in any of 50 states, but via constitutional amendment to the federal constitution. We made that one to be permanent. We are a lot more sure of that societal decisio, and we decided NOT TO ALLOW those same state legislatures to change it.

Pfft-- yes, when it comes to the effect of inebriating intoxicants, on one's sobriety. That does not imply that there is a "societal agreement" that 18 year olds are not mature or competent, on all matters.

I think the voting rights for national elections should go to people who currently pay federal income taxes. Spouses of those people can vote as well as retirees who paid taxes in the past.

That's why Ramaswamy's proposal is a constitutional amendment.

Because society believes it should be lot easier for a state to allow an 18 yr old to drink, than disenfranchise him.

We used to in many states. Then the Mad Mothers lied the US Government into raising the age. Lots of countries have 18 as the age of majority for everything. Equal rights for all means equal rights for all.

Remove the draft and create an amendment that the draft cannot be called at anytime.

The trouble is, the 18 year olds abused their privilege and got far more of their share of DUIs, at least in Massachusetts when I lived there. It is a fact that the brain is not fully developed until one is 25 years old. Perhaps an additional three years would make a difference.

I think there should be a requirement that you have worked FT for five years. Wouldn't need to be consecutive years. Two reasons. Being out in the working world promotes an understanding of how things really are, and hopefully, a little wisdom. Also I have a problem with folks who haven't worked having a say in how tax payer funds are spent. This would exclude most college students, but also rich kids living on trust funds.

I think for all voters the entire amount of annual taxes (no witnholding through the year) should be due the day before voting day.

Should people like Trump, who don't pay taxes, be able to vote in that case?

Didn't Trump have to publicize his tax returns? Seems like those would have shown if he didn't pay the tax he was required to. It would have been a huge scandal.

I am, on the other hand, interested to learn if the Biden family paid taxes on all the money they (many of them) were paid by China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and so on.

Trump hid his tax returns after lying about saying he would provide them. When his taxes were revealed, it showed he paid nothing to the US for several years due to his business failures, that he paid more to China (where he had a secret bank account), and that you paid far more than he did. You and @mswan should think about this some more.

You should think about how the tax laws work. It's not unusual for a business to pay no taxes when they have tax losses, and tax losses can be carried forward indefinitely

That level of losses signal a failure of a business. And Trump promised to fix this ****. Just one of his many, many, many failures and lies.

There are many tax laws that benefit the rich. Tax shelters among these. ALL rich people use them. If you don't like it, campaign to have the laws changed. Maybe a flat tax? In the meantime, it isn't a crime to use whatever legally will benefit you.

This wasn't about the usual tax shelters. And, again, Trump ran on fixing this kind of thing . . . and failed

18 year old kids are for the most part still quite immature. But it wont change because they are not fact checkers, usually not working, and are more concerned about getting laid.
