Oh .... so it's NOT race (which is all it can be this late in the day, when 90% of evidence is lost) based preferential treatment?

I should ****ing well hope so. We are talking about undoing all the human rights gains of the past 60 years, here.

So go ahead, tell us who will qualify - out of that 90% of African Americans who have no paper evidence. Tell us EXACTLY how you will decide who wins.

I disagree that it is justice to take from people that have committed no wrongdoing to give to people that have suffered no wrongdoing.

I have no issues helping people that need it but reparations isn’t the way to do it. I have seen no argument to change my mind. Black people have more protections than I do — I have only been able to marry my partner for 6 years, I can be fired or refused housing — and I am not demanding someone pay me because I belong to a group that was gassed in the holocaust and then imprisoned when the Jews were freed, have been castrated across the globe, were hung right beside the slaves are sentenced to prison sentences just for existing — most of us just want equality.

Which part is false? That there will never be reparations or supporters can't make a coherent argument on eligibility?

The kind of thinking that asks how you will qualify 'unqualified' recipients?

The only kind of thinking which matters, in this case. As long as you folk haven't even the first clue of how you'll do it, the whole thing is just a thought experiment - one which fails at the very first hurdle.

No one's taking anything; that's another false argument.

And the fact that you tie this to Jewish and gay rights illustrates a profound failure to seek understanding of the issues here.

    This kind of thinking:

"Washington and Jefferson and Adams - all those guys need to shut the Hell up. We will ALWAYS be colonies of Britain!"

How do you believe this will be paid for?

The point is that most groups have suffered. We need to be looking forward not backwards.

Like I said, no one has even given me a reason why American blacks deserve reparations for what their ancestors suffered when no other group does, maybe you can answer?

What was the bill for social programs that were supposed to remedy the injustices arising from racism and who pocked the money?
Seems similar to those charity schemes that collect for addressing certain ‘problems’ that have high administration costs and leave but a trickle for addressing the actual problem.

The thing about slavery in the US is everyone has suffered because of it, it benefited but a handful.

such a nice thought but alas not true. so called blacks had their life, names and families stripped from them and only Yah knows what else. to even compare their suffering to anybody elses in america is shameful. the wealth created from slavery had a trickle down effect, whereby loans, stimulus investments would be handed down to the same tribe only. that is how humans operate. so this would have lead to ALL White Jewish and White Christians being the beneficiaries of slavery since the trade was dominated by them in the americas.

Read this thread and the other thread I started, and contribute your ideas rather than reflexively attacking the concept.

Many groups have suffered; many black communities continue to be mired in suffering. We ARE looking forward - that's the idea - stop attacking and start contributing to solutions.

Like I've said - MANY times - liberals are Pepsi conservatives, and nothing reveals that they're just the OTHER conservative white meat than their nearly universal opposition to just reparations.*

But honestly, I'd thought better of you, so if I seem especially riled, that's my disappointment speaking. :(

*In fairness, it should be noted that some black folk oppose reparations as well.
