Report: The Big Ten will not play football this fall

Hmmm... so this thread appears to be just a tad premature... I will just write this. Each of these schools stands to lose real money should they not have their seasons. For those schools who supplement their professorial tenure programs with the funds delivered by sports, perhaps it's a great opportunity to pear back the less valuable courses and professors. Lots of potential targets that don't add value but con students into pursuing them because they are easy. Who needs a degree in liberal indoctrination studies anyway?

I will also suggest that those athletes who decided not to play should have to repay their scholarships. Treat them like anyone who breaches a contract. Let them learn that their "future earning potential" was predicated on their acceptance of a scholarship in the first place.

They're often playing sports because nobody gives them any choice. They can't go to college unless they get an athletic scholarship

You forget that not everybody who goes to college on an athletic scholarship actually plays for the team at all, let alone gets on the starting roster.

 

I wonder if we will ever learn the truth about the real numbers with this virus, is it really 500,000 cases, or 50,000, since even kits dipped in pineapple juice are coming back positive, kits dipped in NOTHING come back positive. Hospital deaths are handsomely rewarded with thousands of dollars so every death gets a Covid diagnosis even those that test negative multiple times, I have heard personally not just on TV or the web, from 4 different sources at hospitals, one in TN, 2 in CO 1 in IL, 1 in NJ, so what is the real death toll 160,000 or 16,000? We are making decisions based on Bullshit numbers.44

How many college athletes dying is acceptable?

The athletes make nothing off the sport they play. Yet they assume all the risk. Death being one of the risks, for tuition, room and board costs.

While the Universities rake in $$$$$millions.

Having said that, it should be up to each athlete on if they want to play. It's their life, their risk.
