Here are some facts for those who are asking question about how Scotland will proceed before and after an independence referendum and proposes how the referendum might be run:

    http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0038/00386122.pdf

Any problems opening the link, do let me know.

I am currently responding to the consultation questions.

Why do you support it? Sensible reasons now not just a load of Braveheart cliché that most supporters of Independence are full of....

Most supporters are full of Braveheart cliches?? That's precisely the kind of condescending crap that makes people in Scotland support independence. Do you really think that is genuinely the main thrust of independence? Really? Well, I suggest you do a bit more research rather than believe what the Daily Mail, BBC and David Cameron want you to believe.

Arrogance and ignorance - the two most hated traits by the Scots. You'd do well to remember that before you launch into your next bout of textual diarrhoea.

    Have a lovely evening.

It's not going to go far when Spain blocks it. They don't want a precedent set for their Basque and Catalunya regions, which already have a form of devolved autonomy. Denmark too have a secessionist movement, so they might not be keen either.

It'll be interesting to see how the EU decides to work things, if there is a vote in favour of full independance. Technically, Scotland is already a member of the EU, as a theoretically 'equal' partner in the union that is the current UK (which is what makes them a little different from most other 'secessionists' - they are not 'becoming a new country', but simply withdrawing an existing one from a 'union' with neighbouring countries), so I would say it's questionable whether they can actually prevent their membership continuing - throwing someone out is obviously going to be harder than allowing someone new in.

If they can actually try to stop Scotland from 'coming in', they can equally, of course, prevent what's left of the UK from 'coming in' too (since that will be every bit as much or as little a 'new country' as Scotland). Given recent events at the negotiating table, that could get interesting!

Or they could accept the other peoples and let the English go, which might keep everyone happy, except some of the more educated amongst those living in Puerto Rico 2.

Why do you support the Union? Sensible reasons now not just the load of sneers, misinformation and lies that most supporters of the Union are full of.

Scotland doesn't.........unless minds have been changed lately..and I haven't heard about that.

AFAIK, Ireland manages fine without being a member of that Nuclear Club.

Anyway, what exactly is the point of NATO?

NATO is a vestige of the past. It has no reason for being.

Quite possibly true - that is why I advocate a Military alliance of World 'true' Democracies to replace it.

'true' Democracies would exclude Russia of course.

Once I would have agreed with you. Now I have a deeper understanding of the American psyche and the reality of American politics.

Americans are prepared to use foreign conflicts to inflict mortal wounds upon their domestic political opponents. This makes it impossible for America to conduct serious national security policy. It also makes America an unreliable ally.

Neo-isolationism is the only foreign policy that will work for people such as Americans have become. America is on the edge of an abyss. It may be best for every one if America goes over the precipice.

Aye laddie, let's vote to be free an' independent...

Scotland likely to hold a vote on independence from Britain
February 9, 2012, Nationalists have been dreaming of divorce for years, but many Scots want to stay part of the United Kingdom. A referendum could be held in 2014.

Many posters have asked for information about what is going on with the independence debate. This is an information thread, for anyone who is interested.

For anyone who is trolling, there is already another thread full of it. If this one starts to fill up with off topic posts, I will ask for them to be removed.
