Now we're at 36 people who were too stoned to find the first option.

Feel free to provide some proof for that statement other than you disagree with them.

wrong again Sir. I don't smoke marijuana..at least I haven't for 40 years now. I have no desire to. Having been an ardent fan of the weed back in the day (of course when THC levels were much much lower), in retrospect, I can't account for any harm it did me. Then or now. One thing I do recall though; My fear of driving when high. I wouldn't go near a car when stoned. Can't say that for booze, wine or beer. And yes, I was able to go on and live a normal, productive and responsible life and a somewhat successful one at that.

What ?! YOU don't partake so therefor YOU see no reason? Seriously. How self centered is that. Only things to benefit YOU should be legal? Is that the best reason that YOU can come up with?

After the admission of Toronto's Mayor, the rumors and the suspects that many politicians use weed, cocaine and similar, have gained points ...

You are so wrong. You are unaware of the many uses of this plant. If all laws of prohibition were repealed our economy would turn around over nite.
Making Hemp illegal was a crime against humanity. The big oil companies and other profited by it.

Hemp as a Fuel / Energy Source http://www.hemphasis.net/Fuel-Energy/fuel.htm

Understanding the Hemp Plant and its 50,000 Uses and Benefits!
    http://www.voteindustrialhemp.com/

The hemp plant was one of humankind's first cultivated plants and there is quite a lot to educate oneself about this greatly historical plant. With the help of the hemp plant we, as a society could eliminate smog from current fuels, create a cleaner energy source that can replace nuclear power, remove radioactive waste from the soil, and eliminate smog from our skies in more industrialized areas. The hemp plant could assist in eliminating non-biodegradable plastics and cars by reintroducing Henry Ford's 100 year old dream of building cars made from hemp with a plastic hemp car body that can withstand a blow 10 times as great as steel without denting, weighs 1 thousand pounds less than steel, hence improving gas mileage, can run on a vegetable oil based all natural hemp fuel, and has a completely biodegradable body. Nationwide hemp production could eliminate deforestation by converting current paper to hemp paper which can be recycled up to 8 times where as our current wood pulp is only recyclable up to 3 times, and we could thrive from eating hemp seeds and feeding it to our animals and livestock.

SEE MUCH MORE at the link above.

Nope, I've never smoked the stuff. Alcohol has always messed me up enough, don't need anything else if I want to be in an altered state. Honestly, I would have voted either yes or no based on a coin toss, but your silly attitude pointed me to yes. I have no problem either keeping weed illegal or making it legal. Pot isn't that bad for you, but it's also not good for you either. We will solve some problems by legalizing it, and adding other problems. You didn't have an option of don't care either way, so I chose the choice that would most irritate you. The only thing worse than a pothead on a marijuana thread is a rabid anti-drug person on a marijuana thread. Neither are really good in terms of promoting a discussion.

Hemp is a great general purpose plant. If I were a planter in the 18th century, I would advocate for it. We don't live in a general purpose world. There is no single thing that hemp does better than any other plant. There are other plants that make quality fiber at higher yields/lower costs than hemp. There are plants that make more nutrious oil than hemp. It's just not the best at anything. It's an old crop, not a modern one for that reason.

HOw many plants do all of them?
How many plants are drought resistant?
How many plants will grow and thrive on poor soil?
Hemp does not need artificial fertilizer or pesticides?
    Name just one.

I don't know where you are getting this idea from. The referendum is coming to Oregon. Ideally, I'd prefer to wait another two years so that Colorado and Washington to get the kinks out of their statutes and we can learn from them what to expect before we try to write ours, but I'll vote yes And no, I have never even had a puff.

and the Deity gave unto all humankind
every green plant & every herb bearing seed after its own kind.

therefore, what is mere mortal law, in light of the fact that all the plants are a gift from the Deity?

    Legalize FREEDOM!

Definitely the lesser--maybe--of two evils. I would make all drugs legal and make all drug users work to support their habits.

    1. None. have you ever heard the phrase, "Jack of all trades, master of none." As I said, if I only had a few crops on a 18th century of farm, hemp would be on my list. The 21st century has different requrirements, and there is no need to have one crop that does everything ok, but is the best at nothing. We are in an age of specialization.
    2. Hemp isn't drought resistant. It's yields vary by rain, just like most crops.
    3. Hemp doesn't thrive in poor soil any more than any plant does.
    4. Hemp grows better with artificial fertlizer or pesticides--to get yields anywhere close to other plants, it has to be heavily fertilized, just like the other plants.

Hemp is a great 18th century crop. I don't deny that. It's just not the best at anything.

The thing is if all you said about hemp is true, the countries that legally allow hemp would be dominating the marketplace. They aren't. There is a reason for that. It's just not as good as you think for everything.

same is true of alchol, though it was worse when you had to go to the black market to get it

what prohibition does to society is says, the cops are only their to stop you from having a good time, prohibition causes a lack of respect for authority

Clearly you do not understand the difference between having a belief and forcing that belief on someone else. Fortunately the poll results show you that many others do understand this distinction.

Belief in Freedom is not about believing in freedom only for things you agree with. Just because you do not happen to like weed is not a valid reason to want to prevent others from doing it.

If we banned everything on the basis that "someone does not like it" there would not be much left to do.

Live and let live. If you not like alcohol don't drink. If you don't like Pot, don't smoke it.

Why would you think it is ok to force your personal likes and dislikes on other people ?

I tried pot but its not my thing. I have also have a number of friends that use pot either occasionally or on a regular basis. There were no offensive changes in behavior and I have never heard others describe the phenomenon you are describing except in cases where the dude was messed up to begin with.

My guess is that the behavioural changes towards you were a function of your intolerance and ignorant perspective and not as a function of smoking pot.

You did not describe what these behavioural changes were but in general the behavioral changes from smoking pot are relatively benign.

Either these folks you are describing were wing nuts to begin with or you do not value relationship very much to punt a friend for what - taking the edge off once in awhile ?

Most adults who smoke pot do it because it relaxes them. Did your friends become too relaxed for you ?
