Now I think of it - I never use public transport, and I certainly never use the roads that taxpayer money built in places like Ipswich or Logan - so I think the government should give me a rebate to help cover the cost of my Porsche. I pay a lot of tax - it's only fair - isn't it Oxy.

And my private security guards that I pay very well to keep poor people away from my house help take pressure off the police. I'd like another rebate there too please Oxy. After all - I pay a lot of tax.

Hey - this welfare for the rich stuff is fun!!! I wish we had John Howard back. He was so helpful to me and my fellow sufferers.

Yes. I think they are rich. Not as rich as I am - but still very well off compared to the vast majority of people on the planet.

Why do you want you tax dollars to be used to pay welfare to me?

The whole rich poor thing is a misnomer anyway, used by the ALP to fool the voters and distract from the actual reasons for the policy. Its a sad day when ppl think arguing about the flavor of the ALP's spin is considered political discussion.

    I already answered your question.

Yes. I think they are rich. Not as rich as I am - but still very well off compared to the vast majority of people on the planet.

What has it got to do with the planet? Well - this planet is where humans live. And wealth is a human construct. You asked if they were rich - "rich" is a relative term. And I answered you - "yes". They are rich. The are very rich relative to most other people.

What don't you understand about that?

I think he doesnt understand why you seem to think you have a valid point with such off angle nonsense. Clearly the measure of being rich as implied by people like you here is to have sufficient excess money to not struggle to pay for the impact of the health rebate.

....and the family on 60k a year might pay for private insurance. Missing the point is a waste of time, the point is this bill puts pressure on people to move from the private system back into the already overcrowded public system. People who can better afford to stay in private. As has been pointed out above, there are many reasons why people might choose to only use the public system - but what that does is make it more overcrowded and reduce the quality of service for the people who really cannot afford private insurance (even with the full rebate). Its hilarious when ALP policy screws the poor since the ALP cries so loudly that is who they care most about.

    Hey?

What don't you understand? We are talking about the private hospital rebate in Australia, are we not?

I don't care a (*)(*)(*)(*) for your ridiculous reasoning to drag the entire world into your deflection. It has got nothing to do with any of this.

I was right on the other thread, you're just a political hack with no real relevance any more.

If you don't like the answers you get - you probably stop asking questions.

But to answer yet again for you - the family you keep talking about will continue to get a rebate, despite being relatively wealthy.

Is there a point to this question at all?

Taking a rebate away from people earning more than 250K per year is "screwing the poor"?!?!?!?

    Seriously?!?!?!

Yes it does by placing more stress and strain on the public system, eventually leading to higher premiums.

The public system should be given the funding and infrastructure to work properly, thats the real problem. In my opinion the federal government needs to take over the health system lock stock and barrel from the states who are doing abysmally terrible at running it. This hybrid private/public system we have is just not working,

It is not that - the REAL problem is the multiplication of bloody bureaucrats - they are like rabbits on viagra

They have the ability to justify anything they want but at the same time have NO hesitation in cutting direct patient care funding.

We have twonks in central office sending out memo's about "Queensland Health Week" and running around getting people to make up baskets of biscuits for single nurse stations - so the people can "feel better about working for Qld Health"

Forget the @#$# biscuits put paint on the walls and give us some decent bloody stethoscopes and we WILL feel better about working for Qld health

People earning more than 250K per year will shift to sharing rooms in public hospitals because they lose a rebate on their health care?!?!?! Really!?!?!?

Depending upon how many it affects and how many drop back into the public system, YES.

As margaret Thatcher said, "the problem with socialism is, that sooner or later, they run out of other people`s money". People on 250k per anum pay more tax in one year than you will in 20, get your hands out of their pockets mate.
