Well, I resisted the urge to go to the State Fair all this week. Made up my mind before it started that I wasn't gonna go cuz it's always the same ole thing year after year... except this year there's a new Big Tex. Hear he's a little 'tanner' than he used to be... in fact, I've heard him referred to as Big TexMex... but people always gripe about things that change.

Ran across this map today and it reminded me what I enjoy most about the fair.

All those Ginsu knife demos and sneaker cleaners and miracle brooms and waterless cookware and vibrating recliners.

Decided today if I have time off next week, I'm going. Anybody want me to pick up some Jack Fries or Fletcher's corny dogs while I'm there?

Yes... yes, it is. I'm glad to see some things never change. They're the same here, as they are on FaceBook or any other medium. Something can be said for consistency. lol

Oh, and enjoy the fair! =]

Did you really? Send some snowballs.
Do you have a big garden? What do you grow?

Does anyone want to go to the store for me? I hate shopping....shopping with heartburn. Yikes.

Small garden by your standards if I remember right? We have a typical garden about 20x40 and just finished our canning for the most part. Tomato, onion, corn, lettuce, radish, potato, peppers, squash, herbs, zuchs, sunflower.

That's huge. You are probably thinking of falena's garden. We just had 2 maters and a cuke along some herbs.

    Gravy...Mmmmm
Ive been making gravy right along. Homemade pizza with garden gravy tonight. Be here by 6 and bring a big appetite.

I hope you guys are all doing well.
Toefoot what did the best in the garden for you this year? These tomato plants did exceptionally well this year for me. The peppers were a disappointment. No anchovies stuffed vinegar garden peppers this year.

I take we're not talking biscuits & gravy type gravy.

Anchovies stuffed vinegar garden peppers? Is that anything like jalapeño poppers?

I had to look up jalapeño poppers. Damn! Im gonna make some of those.

No the anchovie stuff peppers are banana peppers. The long thin type peppers. You cut them in half finger size and clean the seeds. Hot water, some kind of vinegar. Mom uses cider. I use red wine. Garlic. Soak the peppers over night. Rinse them next day. Stuff with anchovies. Put in jars with olive oil. Delicious with provolone or Fontina table cheese on hard crusted Italian bread.

    This is even better.
Cherry vinegar peppers with anchovie/bread stuffing. Baked in the oven.

Sounds tasty. Other than jalapenos, we're not real big on peppers down here. Now we did have the Hatch Chili Festival in August and I stocked up on enough peppers to make a pot of posole when temps cool off.

Do youse guys ever eat hominy?

I may have had gritz once when I was staying at the place I had biscuits and gravy. The big chunks of hominy I never saw in real life. lol Im a yankee for Christ sakes! An Italian yankee. Its polenta and we eat that with...gravy and Romano, I dont care for Parmesan, so its Romano cheese. Not the fake kind in the jar. The kind you get from the Italian store and grate yourself on one of those old fashion metal 4 way graters. Old school.Delicious.

Yeah, hominy is big with Mexicans, esp in stews. If you want, I'll send you some.

    (Mexicans, not hominy)

Same here, tomato was the bumper crop. It was a hard year and had to get some vegies from a local farmer for my canning. The garden mix I canned for salad turned out great along with my cantaloupe/peach jam. Great on hotcakes.
