    Good morning, soggy people. More rain today .. good grief.

    No big plans for the weekend, MMC. Breakfast with a diva friend on Saturday. gearing up for my trip to the beach next month. Can't wait. :)

    Ok, I have a story for everyone...this is the most embarrassed I've been in a while.

    So I'm staying in France for a few days and I was asking for a cup of water at a counter in this adorable little café. I do speak pretty fluent French and my accent is a bit ambiguous, so I can usually get by quite well here, but on this occasion I wasn't sure whether to say "verre" (glass) or "tasse" (cup/mug) and I had partly forgotten the word "tasse." In Croatian, the word for "glass" is "čaša", so then it got into my head that the word for "glass" in French was "casse": a weird mix of "tasse" and "čaša."

    "Casse" actually means something along the lines of burglary.

    So I went confidently up to the counter and asked the person there if I could please have a burglary of water.

    She looked at me like I was insane for two seconds, and was then like "Oh ! Un verre d'eau ?" By which time I had realised my mistake and it was incredibly awkward. Don't learn languages, kids.

    Besides the requisite brushing up on how to be an existentialist when the
    check arrives.Like at the 3 star Michelin restaurant and for the main course
    instead pheasant under glass ... pheasant wearing glasses.Plus,of course,
    Escargot.

    That's not fair, I was une véritable paysanne at that café, only asking for water and all. Partly because I don't drink champagne outside of the Champagne region, but let us gloss over such minutiae.

    Why not just say eau? Or eau du robinet? You can put anything into a verre.

    interesting story, they don't teach foreign languages in American public schools to any good standard. most of us couldn't afford to travel to use it if they did, so it works out.

    the europeans seem to be enlightened, well traveled, and intelligent, even at young ages.
