Believe it or not, my friend is a Trumper, highly conservative and authoritarian, a bit of a survivalist, a big-time hunter - bow hunting. Bear, mountain lion, elk, deer... he is a total alpha male and on the surface seems to have a very brutal and insensitive outlook on just about everything. He's really not as hardcore as he seems. You just have to get past what I call his social Turret's Syndrome.

So when he's really pissed off about something, when he is going a bit over the edge, I tell him to put on some Barbara Streisand and get in touch with his feminine side. I always catch him off guard and it always makes him laugh.

If you have a license you can make distilled spirits anywhere.

You just need to get the license and pay for it.

Moonshine is just like any other distilled spirit -- just normally made from feed corn.

You need to sprout the corn so that the sugars develop to ferment the mash for the moonshine.

    Whisky is from wheat.

    Vodka is from potatoes.

    Tequila is from lily cacti.

    Gin is from barley.

Rum is from molasses or sugar. This is the easiest because there is already sugar in the molasses.

Good to know. You'll learn something new every day. I thought moonshine was just a synonym for illegal liquor created by people that did not have a license.

Many an old biddy have nice jewelry.Often times really expensive
pieces of jewelry. What good does it do them.
They go into early senility and plaster on gobs of theatre-grade makeup
    and Lots costume jewelry.
I've been waiting me entire adult life to be a Dirty Old Man.
I think I'm about halfway there.

What Planet have you been dropped from.
Bourbon is made from Corn.Bourbon is The Most Popular of Whisky.
It is experiencing a huge revival right now.About a new Bourbon
    maker each week.
Vodka all kinds of stuff. From Wheat to Potatoes to plain grains.
In France some Vodka is made from grapes.
Moonshine can be lethal because it is not regulated.Plus just a
single distillation, generally no filtration.Even though there are legal
    Moonshine licenses.

If you single-distill moonshine it will taste like piss.

You need 3 to 4 distillations.

The first distillation gets you to 50% from 14%.

The second distillation gets you to 75%.

The third distillation gets you to 90%.

The fourth distillation gets you to 95% and complete clarity and flavorless and untainted.

I'm thinking you are probably all the way there.

    Especially the Bourbon part.

Moonshine is just American liquor distilled from feed corn.

It is the American equivalent of Russian vodka.

You got lucky. He could have gave you a box of $1.99 cordial cherries and stayed.

Not so fast pally. You have to be tested in how to use the proper
    equipment.This isn't being a Home Brewer { making beer at home }.
Or some extension of the Volstead act.
That Moonshine show on some cable channel had a couple segments
where one of the Moonshiners got enough money together to
go legal. He had to be Trained after he passed some test for a License.
Plus he had to use equipment that was regulated.

Years ago someone gave me a mason jar of homemade moonshine. It was clear as water. I tried it out of the jar. It was wicked strong going down and had a faint after taste of apple. I had nothing to compare it to and thought, this apple after taste is bad.
So good moonshine should have no taste at all?

Kentucky distillers are the only ones allowed to put bourbon on the label. The barrels used to make the bourbon can only be used once. Just an FYI.

We stopped in Lynchburg, Tn, a few years ago and went to the Jack Daniels Distillery for the tour. We were surprised to find that the county was a dry county, you can't buy alcohol. I thought that was amusing. They can make it but can not sell it where it is made. No souvenirs for friends.
