Stephen Hawkins Says Idea of Afterlife a "fairy tale"

Stephen is rejecting the idea of heaven or an afterlife and simply says that notion is a 'fairy story' for those who fear dying...for those who are afraid of the dark.

Why is the dogma of nearly 300 religions around the world necessary?

 

I think people should be completely free to adopt their own philosophy regarding death.

One person's idea or belief does not negate another's, and whether one believes in God or not, I don't think it's anyone's place to evangelize a particular religion or atheism for that matter.

Why do heathens need to attack the beliefs of others who do accept the existence of God?

Maybe they are the ones who are feeling insecure.

Why do you assume that anyone who questions religious purpose is a heathen? This is a good example to show the negative effects!

I'm curious...is there anything imaginable that can persuade you that there is no heaven, no afterlife?

 

Hawking may be one of the greatest minds in all of history, but I don't think that has any correlation with him having any sort of special insight as to what happens after we die. He knows no better than any of us, and that's just what he believes, just as another man believes in an afterlife.

I think the ball is in your court; if you believe something exists then it is your task to provide some empirical evidence. If you cannot provide evidence, then it is a myth...

Prove that God or Heaven doesn't exist. I'm going on faith.

A sincere opinion in which he is sincerely wrong. Its still a free country untill the Atheists get their religion established through the courts as a theocratic institution of non-choice. History tried that in Russia and it was 10 times worse than the Catholic theocracy and onlt five times worse as the Islamo theocracy which is avery close second.

 

The word heathen means someone who is not Christian or Jewish.

Are you either of those?

I accept the existence of God since I know He has touched my life spiritually.

But knowing you won't accept that as evidence what I can tell you is that the existence of our world could not be an accident as the deniers claim and that in itself is enough to make me seek a higher power than myself.

 

Two things; First, considering his life and health, with medical issues, and his open-minded thinking, with all the time he has to contemplate stuff, from his perspective and experience, he surely must feel he is 100% on his own...no help from anyone...no one taking away pain...no one healing him...no voices in his head...just nothing. Second, how much credibility would he have as a scientist if he simply used some form of religious faith to explain everything that could not yet be explained with science? Hawking doesn't care what you or I think; he is offering his perspective...period.

Then you should have no problem with social darwinism.

 

This would be tantamount to saying that it's okay for some people to believe that on Mars there are one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eaters. And that 'their' faith in these purple beings is no better or worse than Christian faith for example...

 

Hawking would love for you to PROVE him wrong...how will you do this?

 

Lets face it, some people need proof and others just believe. So why not let each person believe as they wish without insulting each others beliefs.

The only way anyone will truly know is when they die.

 

What is the 'we'?

A spirit?

The thoughts in your brain?

Your physical being?

Something else?

 

Or that Global Warming is real because moronic self-serving former politicians and compromised scientists say so.
