Ask yourself this did they die of basically a cold or did they die from complications like pneumonia?

I'm starting to wonder if this panic is just being generated to try and stop people from voting.

I'm betting the last time people died in the nursing home and that number was probably last time they got the flu. You realize that is far more likely to kill you right?

Not according to the scientists, but what do they know? You're right, you're far more likely to get reliable info on a brand new disease from a guy who stole from his own charity stares unprotected at Eclipses and ****s porn stars without a condom.

You think that this is a worldwide conspiracy just to stop people voting in the US?

Nobody dies of the flu or a cold, everybody dies of "complications", most frequently pneumonia. Pneumonia is actually a symptom, meaning "fluid on the lungs" it can be a disease in itself as well but also describes a symptom of that disease..

This disease is at LEAST as bad as the flu, and nobody really knows how bad it is for vulnerable populations, but I'm guessing it may be worse going ENTIRELY by the number of fatalities we have so far.

But who cares about them, they're just old people, they were going to die soon anyway. Better they go now and they won't be collecting all that Social Security Trump wants to spend on the Wall.

    True.

Besides, everybody knows that the "coronavirus is no big deal" is just a "talking point" being pushed by the RW to defend Trump.

It is just Partisan Hyperbole (that even the people who are pushing it don't actually believe).

you saying "scientists say" is just like a Christian saying "God says." You're just trying to add gravity to your claims. If scientists save this is more deadly than SARS or the flu been produced the damn science. But you can't because there's not any.
No idea what or who you are talking about.

It wouldn't work anyway, not for Trump. Trump's going to lose more votes from people mad at his incompetence in handling this than he would gain from low turnout. In fact, it will kill off his base, or at least make more of them stay home than younger voters.

It doesn't seem as serious as everyone's making it out to be in fact we've had strains of this same virus that did more damage.

Yes every virus bad for people who have compromised immune systems or breathing problems.

The flu kills more people every year than this cold will ever kill. Nobody panics about the flu because it happens every year.

This is an unmitigated disaster for my town. It's been all the news for over a week. The concerns got jacked up significantly when they started quarantining folks right down the road in San Antonio.

10s of millions? no, 100s of millions.

Do we wish that the hundreds of thousands of attendees could manage to hit the trash cans? Yes of course we do. Not to worry, within a week the whole place has been cleaned up and it looks like there was never a big ole party here.

My niece is employed by ACL. She gets paid in American money as well as event tickets. She loves her job. She's seen every ALC concert that's coming through town for years...And makes enough money to take a European vacation every year. So you don't need worry about our workers while they're working...just worry about the ones who just lost their job!!

In defense of our city council, who are a bunch of goons, not in defense of Donald Trump, also a goon...when Trump said let's have a travel ban everyone jumped on him as a racist, and then we did get coronavirus in the US, now they're jumping on him for not acting soon enough! And the goons on our city council don't want to be held to that same screwball standard. 2 hours down the road they're holding a bunch of people that have coronavirus... This decision was made out of an abundance of caution; no more no less. With hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, this decision was not made lightly.

Corona virus has mortality rate similar to flu to those under 50. It raises dramatically for people over that age.
Maybe the city council would do everyone a better favor by banning old people from attending festivals and other large events? Enforce a maximum age policy of sorts?

Corana virus is not going to go away. It’s here to stay and will be coming back periodically. What’s the point of fighting a virus that isn’t that much different from cold or flu?
I bet next year the death toll will be similar and they will let the festival to happen.

Festival owners complain that their insurance doesn’t cover viruses and pandemics. I’d lawyer up and take them to court - Corona virus outbreak is not a pandemic and should be considered to be covered under the general coverage term “forces of nature”.

Your solution is to ban people over 50 from going out in public for 2 weeks???

Have you ever been to SXSW?!

There are concerts set up in every empty parking lot, music venues include every auditorium, parks, restaurants, movie houses, churches hold rock concerts, drumlines outside every gas station in town, in fact, the whole of the center of this city is turned into a venue of some sort.

What you suggest is not feasible, I'm not even sure it's legal.

Maximum age limit is as legal as minimum age. A 50 year old cant attend high school, couldn’t join Boy Scouts and can’t take money out of 401k without a penalty.
This policy would be more logical than cancelling events that cost millions of dollars for a disease that carries as much risk of death to average healthy attendee under 50 as a flu or a cold.

Right, so ban people over 50 from parks, grocery stores and gas stations.

    Dismissed

Why blow things out of proportion? Just ban them from events with headcount of, let’s say, at most 1,000 attendees.
Go to stores, gas stations, and parks al you want.

I have just enough libertarian blood in my veins to despise the mindsets that proffer this sort of tripe.

If you are a true libertarian you would be against show cancellations by small scale politicians to score some political goals that cause others to lose millions of dollars.
What is worse - cancel an even altogether and inflict massive economic pain, or enforce a maximum age limit for such events and let the event happen because average attendee is much younger than the risk group?
Hmm, what a difficult decision... :confusion:

Reading comprehension issues? That's exactly where the attendees are gathered!!! Even in local churches! the only place in 25 years that I have not seen a concert was on school grounds!

Why 1000? It only takes one door knob, one nose to sneeze, to catch viruses.

    Enough.

Do you have a real opinion, or are you just spewing talking points and blow things out of proportion for every comment that you perceive to contradict your points?
Can you answer this question - is it better to cancel a massive event altogether, inflict a massive economic damage to local community and event owners, or is it better to come up with age and event size limitations to “force-protect” people who are truly vulnerable? I never said old people should be forced to stay home or not be allowed to gas stations or grocery stores - that’s something that you made up on your own and then you argued against your own figment of imagination.

    No true Scotsman?!! Really?!?
    LMFAO!

Okay, I get it. It is the reading comprehension thing:
if you think that 50 year olds are not plentiful at Austin venues, you haven't got a clue about the ethos of this city!!!

    Truly, enough.

Let me guess - you are older than 50 and would prefer the event to be cancelled altogether instead of allowing it to happen with you not being allowed to attend.

Wow. Seems like the wrong thing to do to me. There are hundreds of unofficial jams going on. How are those going to be shutdown?
