A lot of the industry-sponsored ones were already shutting down before SXSW made the call. I'm sure the "unofficial jams" will still be happening. I was planning on working from home for the week anyway, and still plan to. We only have one train route here in ATX, and it is always super crowded during SXSW.

Private parties were already pulling out in droves. Also, the age limit thing doesn't work because that isn't how viruses work. If someone came to ATX for the event and caught the virus, but was healthy/young enough to not have to worry about it, that wouldn't maaaaaaaaaagically stop them from transmitting the virus to others.

This. Most of the people I know who were planning to come into town for SXSW didn't even have a pass for the official events themselves. Unless you want to attend the sponsored innovation or music events specifically, you can't throw a frisbee without hitting an unofficial "event" where you can get free drink and hang out. First time I went, I actually paid for a drink somewhere because I'm a nerd like that. My coworkers quickly showed me where the "real" SXSW was happening.

    What happened to the 150 K ? 8000 x 7 days is 56,000.

Population of the US is roughly 330 million. This is then an average rate of 56000/330,000,000 = .00017 - per week.

    We don't know the size of the nursing home - estimate 200. 10/200 = .05 .05/.00017 = 300

The rate of death in these homes is then 300 times the average death rate.

25 years and I've never bought a wristband...and never missed the party.

Few yrs back we were walking near Riverside, headed back to a buddy's who had bovine burning in the backyard.

We heard some people scurrying towards a church so they could hear Joan Osborne and decided why not. What a gorgeous church it was, the whole interior clad in polished wood, and there was Joan: what if God was one of us...just a slob like one of us? Surreal.

I just heard on the radio that they may be looking to move the music portion to later in the year.

    Fingers crossed.

Maybe I missed it in the thread, but the 10 deaths in Washing was in ONE nursing home, 9 residents and one visitor.

clearly you didn't. 10 out of 200 is a heck of a log higher death rate than 56K out of 330 million. Not sure what part of 300 times the average - you are not understanding.

How does it feel to be rooting for a virus?

Are they calling it the Biden blessing yet?

Pretty sad when you have to root for people to die because your candidate is senile.

Understood - Why is it that you do not understand that 300 x the average rate is significant ?

ten people is hardly that many when compared to the average and not worth getting excited over.

The Sunday Night Blues Jam on Sixth street that I host every week was packed full last night.
Lots of people from out of town. Life goes on with or without SXSW.

You are not great with Math - I get it. If 300 times the average is not significant - how many times the average would it take for you to think it was significant.

Just don’t let MSNBC’s Brian Williams do the math.

Not sure what you are talking about...10 isn't 300x 56K.

The 10 deaths won't have any impact on the average at all
